That sounds to me like maybe there was an issue with your payment method and your order was never completed. They started processing payments in early June and you would have gotten a confirmation email that your order was complete.

The reason you were able to play until now is because the Early Acccess code is separate from the full registration code. You got EA just for preordering but now it's expired.
