    New to making gil

    Hello!
So I’m not really an old player by any means and I couldn’t figure where to put this thread
So I hope it’s alright here especially since it’s my first time making Gil.

I’m level 72 and on the SB story. Currently I know trials and selling SB gear on the MB is good so far and I know crafting is probably best but time consuming. Is there a more efficient way to make Gil? YouTube / google is out of date or a lil confusing so would be nice to know from people now. Thank you!

It depends how much Gil you need and what you’re willing to do to get it.

Personally, I prefer a couple quick things every week to bring in some cash and then some things to avoid expenses. The game gives you a lot of tomestones of Poetics. With those, I regularly buy stacks of demicrystals at Idylshire. These cost 25 poetics and sell for 500 Gil to a vendor. It’s very easy to get 2000 poetics every few days, so that’s a regular source of money. Not big money, but constant money.

I also have my retainers bringing me those 500-Gil Allagan coins.

For avoiding expenses, you also get allied seals and grand company seals that you can spend on teleport tickets. 5 allied seals for 1 teleport ticket can save you 999 Gil. Your grand company seals can buy a teleport ticket that takes you back to your grand company HQ, again saving you up to 999 Gil.

It all adds up and takes very little time. For lots more Gil, you have to invest more time. Sell your high end materia, find and sell high value craft materials and things like that.

For 150 Poetics you can get some good dirt, which will probably get you more on the MB. Buy the Unidentifiable Ore (or Shell) from the special arms section of the Idylshire Poetics vendor, go 2 NPCs to your right and trade them under Uncanny Knickknacks for Grade 3 Than (Shroud) topsoil. The prices might be under 10k each now, but they'll spike up when they add new seeds or garden farms or extra housing.

There isnt one magical gil making method, there are as many paths to financial independence as there are people seeking it. So you need to look at what you can do, and how that interacts with the market. You might have a glut of poetics tomes, grand company seals, and the like. Check the list of things those buy versus the market board for your server. Some servers will see the raziqcoats and potashs(to name 2 items available for GC seals) available to you selling for tons, other servers will have them for peanuts. Poetics are used for several lists of crafting mats that might still do good business. Personally, i turn them into soil when i dont have a class to gear up(idyllshire - the poetics girl sells unidentified ore for anima weapon, the girl next to her trades that for grade 3 thanalan soil which i can either sell or use in my garden). Some people make their money farming ex primals for the crafting mats, others level up a gathering class and find a niche selling stuff they dug up from the ground. Treasure maps are a great source of gil(either selling or running them). Doman enclave still pays 20k a week. Hell, you can get almost 100k a week just for completing most of the challenge log.

If i was answering how i personally got my bankroll, i started with being cheap. I wouldnt buy something if i could make or get it myself. I would walk instead of teleport. From there i moved to selling primal mats(this was so long ago that king mog was my target of choice). Meanwhile, i was leveling 5 of the crafting/gathering classes. About halfway through that process i realized that i would need all 11, so i got to work on the other 6. All this time i was finding ways to supliment my income(selling extra GC/leve items that i either outleveled or made extra specifically to sell, few stacks of gathered mats here and there). At some point i had become one of those omni-crafter people who had more then 100 mil in the bank and could make gil at will. Then i stopped trying, because i have enough. I sell a few odds and ends now, but im not in any competitive markets.

You are either a crafter or you are not - This is it basically.

There is no fast way in making gil without being a crafter. But to become one, you have to spent lots of time (and gil - if you don't have gil, then you spent even more time).

Personally I would focus on finishing up with the whole MSQ first. You can sell whatever you find on the MB. A good way to make gil (if you got some patience and time) is to use the world visiting system. Take a look through your MB first. Are there any items which seemed to be in high demand (check the "Item Sold" history). Make a list of a bunch of items you are interested in selling. Go and visit other servers. Are they particularly cheap somewhere else? Great, buy a few of them, return to your server and set them up for sale.
Beware however, don't get greedy! Don't put up 200 items all at once just because you got them cheap. You are crushing your own market! This is a "dangerous" method with risk of losing gil because you need to have a close eye on the items you want to sell and always be aware if the prizing changes. Don't dump them in a panic attack just because someone else jumped on the wagon.
Back in SB I made hundreds of bacon bread for one of the quest chains. Eventually more people caught up with the bacon bread buisness and I sat on 200 bacon breads that would only sell cheap. I stuffed them in my retainer and sold them three months later when the bacon bread demand was so low that people didn't bother to craft them anymore.

I will just list a few things you can look into:
    - treasure maps
    - retainer ventures
    - turning GC-seals into crafting mats (check MB)
    - turning Poetics into crafting mats (check MB)
    - SHB: turn fate tokens into crafting mats (check MB)
    - hunting; turn clusters into materia and sell on MB
    - gathering/mining
    - Eureka (but i would first do MSQ)
