If you've seen the Live Letter, what is your opinion on the information we received about the FATE changes?

i think this might satisfy that niche of people who were clamoring for more open world content and for open world stuff to kinda mean something and keep it a bit more populated esp if crafting mats are needed from the currency you get from them.
I am surprised they didn't do that for previous expansions, it seems logical to me. It's a small incentive but might be good enough to have people do fates more often.

I like it. Gives you a reason to FATE beside xp. I hope it carries over into other areas.
The interesting thing is they tried to make FATEs more appealing in Stormblood by adding that XP buff you can get from beating a particular enemy when it appears (I forget the name of it). I'm the end it didn't really last long because the XP still wasn't worth it that much, and there were other more effective ways to level up. Still the changes in ShB brings a more worthwhile incentive because least you can choose what to trade the currency for and isn't only XP related.
I really hope the crafting materials from it aren't something that's going to be needed for more then a few niche items.
Well without a doubt the crafting items are going to be about 3g after week 1 so I also hope it's for niche items to not tank gathering as a means of gil earning.
Honestly, I am happy they are trying new things, but this is a problem they already solved, and are ignoring the fact that they did. Just do the same thing they did with Eureka to get people to keep coming back and helping others even after they finished their weapon. Give us tomes.
Have it so if you are level 80 while doing a 5.0 FATE (even if sync'd lower), if you get gold you will get ~15 of the uncapped tomes, and ~5 of the capped tomes. If you do FATEs in older content that is level 50+, you get ~25 Poetics. Anything lower than that gives you about half the FATEs level in Poetics.
It would be far from the most effective solution for capping, but sometimes I just don't feel like doing an expert dungeon (which will basically be the ONLY way to get tomes until 5.1) but still want to be productive, and I KNOW I'm not alone in that. Letting us use FATEs to at least make a small amount of progress is a good way to do that, I think.
The crafting items appear to be the same as drops from enemies in the zone. So, instead of farming gazelle hides until your eyeballs bleed out, you can do a FATE and buy 12 Gazelle Hides (or, rather, the equivalent) right then and there from the vendor (they cost 1 per, and I think HQs cost 2 per).
What I love about this system, though are the RIDING MAPS.
Gone are the days of hoping you can be right next to an A or S rank when it pops, or having to camp hunt reports, or grind out the daily hunts.
Now, you just do 6 FATEs in a zone, and then buy the riding map for 70 stones (you'll have 2 left over from doing the 6 FATEs in the zone to unlock it!).
I already got the one for Il Mheg and I haven't even finished the MSQ in there yet lol.
HUGE thank-you to SE for this Bicolor Stone system.
I maxed out one Area and the vendor added an orchestration and a housing item. But, I ran into a vendor in Crystarium and he said that he wouldn't have stock until I had made significant contributions to all six areas. So I guess once you reach rank 3 in all 6 areas this vendor will have special items. Looking forward to seeing what those are.
