So to say we are "good" is already a stretch and we only consider ourselves thus because it's framed in a way we see all of our senseless and needless slaughter as heroic. When in reality we would be feared, reviled and hunted for what we have done and continue to do.
It should be noted that even if something gets "death" animation it doesn't mean we actually killed them. Best show of that would be in this xpac itself right before we get to Twine where we fight someone who doesn't get named and gets that result, only for it to turn out we just roughed him quite a bit (he did attack us first after all) and one of his two friends who are more important brings him back to town. You can even talk to him at that time.

For other humans it can be chalked up to what you think happens to them, its part of why their bodies disappear (from a non-gameplay standpoint) because it lets the fate of what exactly we did up to us. Meanwhile most animals we go after are also hostile and even non hostile ones its expected we wouldn't even be the only ones to go after them (notable ones here being the first quest you get for all classes which your character for sure is not the only one tasked with doing so.). The ones most likely to die to us are those in battlefields on our opposite side, who ARE trying to kill us. Trying to say we should be feared and reviled over this stuff is being silly in and of itself.

It more or less means the elements are neither inherently good or evil. They just are. Shades of grey. Things don't have to be black and white all the time.

The elements are not evil. Too much of one element is bad in any case.

Light and darkness are not Good nor Evil. They are what they are and they are only seen as Good and Evil because people choose to label them as such.

The reality is that Light and Darkness can be used for both Good and Evil but what they are used for is up to the user themselves.

People have represented Light as Good because it is often seen as the "Beacon" of Hope while Darkness is a "Cloud" of doubt and dark desires.

However, Light also has a Evil side being that long term protect can lead to stagnation of being able to progress in life and freedom to choose for themselves are taken away and Darkness also has a good side as not all Heroes will act in the open in Light but protect those from the shadows and sometimes use the darkness to protect people from those who wish to harm others in the Light.

In the lore of Final Fantasy, the Warriors of Darkness were never villains. They’ve been the heroes of worlds drowning in light.

And light is not good at all, its just light, dont go that way or u will get even confused with the history going forward. Its like religion, its not a good thing, or a bad thing, can be good for you, but its ugly for me. Light, dark, they all are elements on the nature, too much of one of them, is bad.

That wasn't how it played out at all, though. They were the good guys - they did everything they were supposed to and it still wasn't enough.

If you've played any..... ANY squareenix game within the past 10 years you've known dark doesn't equal evil. Their main theme is balance. It's in all their games. Kingdom hearts is a good start. I don't know why anyone thought we'll be a bad guy. Makes no sense in or out of context.
