Eternity Ring teleport in ShB zones

So... why doesn't the eternity ring allow me to teleport to a zone in which I don't have all the aether currents unlocked now? I know it could be used to cheese aether current discovery, but so can other people with flying passenger mounts, tbh. It's super irritating trying to catch up with my partner sometimes when in the old days I could just hit the ring and keep going.

Get flying in the zone and it works again

It's caused by the instancing of the new zones SE has temporarily implemented to ensure server stability (which essentially copies that zone several times), they did it with Heavensward and Stormblood too. Sadly there is no way around it other than asking your partner to move to a non instanced area and then use the ring then (another place that the Eternity Ring will not work is if your partner is inside a FC House, Personal House, Personal Chambers or Apartment, as they are also instanced and thus the ring's teleport function does not work there either).

Wrong. I teleport to my partner inside SHB zones all the time when he logs on so we can quest together. It has nothing to do with the temp instances SE implemented.

More than likely its to prevent sequence breaking. Full aether current is a good measure of determining if a person's done with a zone since more often than not the final story quest(s) of the zone have an aether current reward in them, so its to make sure you can't say, get beyond a barrier the game's blocking you with. (Like going to the eastern side of the Rak'tika greatwood when there's story implications you can't until a certain point, for example, or the North side of Kholusia.) But that's simply my guess.
