People get mad when you can't create characters on specific servers.
THEN PEOPLE GET MAD THAT THEY ALLOWED TOO MANY CHARACTERS ON SPECIFIC SERVERS.

Perhaps you didn't understand what I wrote. I'll phrase it differently.SE: Hey guys, we're releasing this new hype expansion soon, we have all the data about pre-orders and associated characters but you know what? We don't want to use the money you paid us for server upgrades cause it's expensive, y'know, and we do not want to manage the number of characters on each world, 'cause it's just such a hassle. You will just need to wait in queues for 30-60 minutes and if you only get to try to play in peak hours... well, unlucky ;P We will of course not make any refunds or paid time extensions, because we just can't give stuff for free, it's market economy, y'know. We'll just write on the web-site that you'll have to wait for the service you have paid for and we will leave any complaints unanswered and just move them to a trash pile of general discussion, where it can rot forever, cause it's not a law suit that you can't just shrug off (:

IF YOU ARE IN A QUEUE WELL I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT SOMETIMES OTHER PEOPLE END UP IN QUEUES AS WELL DURING PEAK HOURS. YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOUR TIME ARE NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYONE ELSE'S, SO WHY DON'T YOU JUST TAKE A COUPLE OF SEATS. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO FREE COMPENSATION JUST BECAUSE YOU GET PUT IN A LOGIN QUEUE DURING AN EXPANSION LAUNCH.
I play on the third largest server in this game. The only time I've had a queue of 1,000+ was after mass disconnections felt by the entirety of my data center - the one on Day 1 of Early Access and the one yesterday when the servers were experiencing networking issues. And I play during peak hours. Usually the queues are 500~600 people. Sure, it sucks I have to wait, but I'm not more entitled to get into the game than those who are trying to do the same, or who are just playing what they have paid to access. So I go searching for food and wait my turn. You should, too.

I have to say out of all expansions this feels like it has been the smoothest launch they've had.
I would take long queues over being locked out of progressing the MSQ or constant disconnects.
It absolutely is, having been here since 2.4. I'm not sure how well ARR launched but Heavensward and Stormblood were absolute nightmares on launch. I have at least one friend who literally couldn't play for upwards of a week because between getting in the queue and then actually logging in, all their free time would have elapsed and they had to go to work/bed. They've been playing without issue this launch and have been nothing but happy as a result.

WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
Have you tried the World Visit feature which allows you to move your character temporarily to another world for free? There is a new world called Spriggan which is likely as empty as Twintania.

You want to know what a real queue is ?
Archeage launch, used to get up at 6 AM to go to work , log in the queue and was still in it when I was coming home at 7 PM. THAT'S a queue

People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
I can't think of a title that didn't have queues when an expansion launched, or the game launched. Just, usually, those launches have server problems where you wait the hour to get in, then get disconnected immediately. Or have swaths of lag that make the game pretty much unplayable for large chunks of time.
And most companies won't invest into increasing server capacity for a launch, since it's temporary. If the queue issues were persisting throughout an expac's cycle, that'd be one thing, but queues at the start are an expectation.
That said, it took a couple hours to go through a 3k player queue. But I'll take that over having to deal with disconnect issues, server instability, zones being unplayable, another Rabaun wall, etc...
All else aside, SE has had a pretty smooth launch relatively speaking. I wouldn't be against them adding some more servers since I know new players don't really have any options to make characters, at least on Aether.
But even if server capacity was upped, odds are you'd still end up in a queue of some length. Maybe instead of 1000 it'd be 500. Just a lot of bodies are trying to play at once, and it creates congestion.
Reminds me of LoL's PBE when TFT came out a few weeks ago. It was literally 22 hours of waiting. Just open the game early morning and expect to play late at night lmao
I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER AT WALMART. I HAVE A MEMBERSHIP CARD. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT I HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE. IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM YOU DON'T DEPLOY ENOUGH CASHIERS. I WANT 4 DAYS OF PAYMENT (MY EMPLOYEE CONTRACTS HOURLY RATE) FOR THE WAITING TIME.
I seriously laughed REALLY hard reading your post. Just perfect.
