Consistent and persistent 90k errors for the past several months.

    Hello!

I've been having issues with frequent server disconnections for about half a year now, possibly longer since I hadn't been playing as avidly until recently with the expac dropping. My most common errors are the infamous 90001 errors, though ever since Shadowbringers hit, I'm more commonly getting 90002s, not that there's much of a difference. Normally I'd just assume it was a problem with a cruddy internet connection, but I think we can safely rule that out at this point; my partner sits right next to me at their desk and plays at the exact same time I do, and we're both hard-wired by ethernet to the same modem. They never have the same disconnection problems I do.

I'm running on a 64-bit OS, though I do have to run the client on dx9 because my rig isn't super great. My partner runs on 64-bit with dx9 as well. Our PCs are about the same tier and about as old as one another. I'm running on Windows 7, and my partner is running on Windows 10.

Some days I have better luck, but for the most part I get disconnected at least once per hour, which is a major issue if I happen to be raiding, especially since I main tank. I really don't know what to do at this point, because if it's not my internet, I don't know what else it could be. Maybe I need to check my firewall settings? Is it a problem with my OS? I have no idea what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I apologize for the delay in our response. If the disconnections are only happening on your PC, then it's more likely that the issue resides with the configuration specific to your PC. However, if both of your are using the same connection at the same time, you may be running into a bandwidth limitation. Regardless, there is some troubleshooting if you are still experiencing this issue:

    1) Make sure your anti-virus has the proper exceptions for Final Fantasy XIV.

    2) Try a clean boot. For Windows 7, click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

    3) The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
