I'm going to say an extremely unpopular opinion and I know a whole lot of you are going to @ me and try to tell me and convince me otherwise but....

A lot of this comes from the Blizzard community.

Here we are yet again treating Blizzard players like the boogeyman. Toxic players have been here all along, and if there has been a sudden influx of Blizzard players recently no one noticed. No one COULD notice. This may come as a shock to some, but...they aren't any different than us. FF XIV is just a bit more welcoming of a community, and my experiences with toxic players could probably be counted on one and a half hands since starting with ARR launch back in 2013. So yeah, this community is overall a positive one, but toxicity exists, and will always exist. And honestly? Blizzard players coming over to play FF XIV are probably happy as can be not being treated like dirt by their dev team, so some of them might actually be happier people as a result.

I agree, if someone is performing poorly and can't keep up with the rest of the group thus damaging the experience for everybody else, there is no point to be rude towards them. Simply votekick the person instead.

Speaking as the one who is usually that person, this is why I am slow to get experience in anything.

Aaaand also why I am sure I will end up quitting before I ever reach Shadowbringers just like last time I didn't make it through Stormblood.

There's are A LOT of teenagers and brogamers outside of Overwatch that are EXTREMELY toxic, from WoW, to Starcraft 2, to HoTS (Yes, people still play those games) and they are EXTREMELY ultra toxic and it has never changed to this day. Only Overwatch has any sort of behavioral moderation.

Edit: In case I wasn't clear, they're bringing their toxicity to FFXIV now that WoW is a sinking ship for the mean time.

I'm an on again off again WoW refugee (I bail on this game because I am bad, not because I dislike it) and our toxicity is...almost in some ways overstated. I've probably experience harsher toxicity here but more persistent trash talking there. It becomes impossible to take most of it seriously and trash talkers are usually called out on their behavior.

I think that WoW developed such a reputation as the "toxic bro-gamer lol MMO" that the community is in the process of passing through the toxicity and coming at nirvana from the other side. Soon we will leave our terrestrial bodies and become energy beings.

I hope people of FFXIV are receptive to WoW refugees, though. There are a LOT of us and we generally come here because we are seeking an experience our home game doesn't even bother trying to offer anymore.

Personally, the only things I want to see here from WoW are mostly just things to make the game more accessible. Things like UI tweaks, better menus, inventory management, auto dismount when entering combat etc...

When I did new dungeons during the main story, watching all cutscenes, I apologized to the party members and all I got back was "Don't worry mate" "Enjoy" "We wait" etc.

Simply don't participate in the chat if toxicity is going on. Just ignore them. If they are REALLY annoyed they leave anyway. In general I encountered really nice people in FF XIV - the only bad experience I had so far was the Aurum Vale Mentor leaving the group after 1 Boss wipe on the 1. Boss. Like, Mark, you are a Mentor, act like one. Beside that.. Only love and care in dungeons.

"So sorry, I couldn't heal through that.." "Don't worry, it was our fault, we should focus adds more" "Naah guys, it was my bad, I couldn't get all adds under control, i fix that on next try" These are usually my dungeon dialogues.

I haven't encountered this at all on Crystal. If anything, people have been friendlier than ever due to the new expansion.

Yeah those people are quite rare normally and if i encounter them i normally votekick as soon as possible to show them that this kind of behavior is not welcome.

Im only one week back to FFXIV and working on 4.1-4.5 content to start shadowbringer,
but never meet toxic players in daylie Roulette.
All i read is Hi at start and GG at the End.

It was the same on Heavensward and Stormblood Release.

Hmm I guess you had bad luck with the group cause rude players are pretty rare ingame.
They have always existed, they are just the minority.
Don't let your fun be destroyed by them.

My only toxic experience was during a bismarck run but after that, nothing.

Because it's just them and not players like you who are trying to fear monger that every player from another popular mmo are the bad guys.
