    MSQ exp

I saw a thread about this earlier but I can't find it for the life of me.

Levelling via MSQ is supposed to be among the best ways, but I'm finding that I get more than 3/4 my exp via grinding roulettes, dungeons, and exploring lands--counting the few side quests I've done (only been doing the ones for currents) as part of "msq." Exp from quests barely give a sliver in the exp bar when I'm convinced they gave a bigger chunk/percentage than that. I'm not sure if this was intended on their part or not, or if I'm overestimating how it was in previous expansions cuz it's been years.

I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.

It's not necessarily the fastest way to level, but since MSQ are necessary quests, might as well focus on it and get as much of the exp rewards from MSQ as you can.

As a general rule of thumb, the best advice you can give someone is to stick to MSQ and run the highest level dungeon as necessary if the MSQ requires a higher level. And that's because some people can get distracted and do other things and then find out they still have to do MSQ later on when they really want to do other things that are locked behind MSQ.

There's really no need to level faster than the MSQ unless you're having difficult time with the MSQ and want to make it easier by doing it on a higher level.

Of course, if you understand that and still want to do other things, then you can spend your time however you want.

Are you at the same level as the quests you're doing? Quest XP doesn't scale with your level, so it seems (percentage-wise) to drop to a negligible amount if you're above the level of the quest, simply because the amount you need is so much higher at higher levels.

"Supposed to be" - according to who?

Quests give about the same relative amount of Exp in ShB as they did in HW and SB. If you do the MSQ and all the sidequests including the mandatory dungeons, it will be enough to level up one class - perhaps two classes if you have plenty of Exp bonuses.
It does seem as if leveling with quests only is slightly slower in ShB than it was in earlier expansions, but the difference is not huge.

If you want the largest amount of Exp/hour then the daily roulettes is the best source.

Ideally they should have made it so that the main story gave you enough exp to level to max. As well as making so that completing all sidequests on another job does the same giving players 2 max levels by just finish all the story lines.

Nothing more fun to see that "now go and grind something you just did to progress the story" icon to pop up.

Well, it gives you a reason to either redo current dungeon/duty roulette, which helps with queues, or do side quests or other activities.

It's to incentivize doing fares, re running dungeons and doing group activities.

    Like with other people.

I think a lot of people are used to giving advice to those who start on 'preferred' server's. Because throughout ARR & HW, if you're on a preferred server the xp you get from MSQ is more than enough to keep you at the msq required level, if not ahead for a lot of the time. Because of this, people are used to saying "Just do the MSQ, it gives enough xp to let you level enough to keep doing the MSQ"... which doesn't apply in Shadowbringers, as the xp gained doing MSQ is not enough to level enough to keep up with the MSQ level requirements.

I've been mixing it up with fates, which has mostly been enough to level up far.
I know, doing fates for exp, but they're actually a lot better this time around and you get more than exp for finishing them too.
In the case that's not enough, one leveling roulette is more than enough to finish off a level.
