Crystal Data Center, Mateus Server...can't even connect to Data Center. 2002 error about 30 seconds after trying to connect. Feels like a DDoS attack.

I think the frequent server downtime is the only thing where FF14 is lagging behind the competition. I remember these issues being here when I 1st started playing many years ago. Stopped for few years, came back to the same server issues =(

Honestly? I'm surprised we've had as much up time as we have. The servers have been under extreme stress from the minute early access went live, and have only went down because of outside forces out of SE's control. This could be the same thing happening, or it could also be the servers finally giving up the ghost.

Yeah, only experience this once before when early access went up. Square said it was a DDOS attack. FFXIV have been attacked before, i remember back in 2.0. Apparently popular games are targets for attacks.

Must be my bad luck then. I started playing again few weeks before the ShB early start, and there were still few connectivity issues here and there. The reason it is so noticeable to me is mainly because after playing "the game that shall never be named" its usually goes like this, you click play, it loads you select your character and your are in. Server downtime is usually 10-15 minutes.

This will take awhile to get used to but the game is worth it, was just hopeful Square updated their servers in my long absence =D

Exact same thing happened to me on Siren (Aether). Can't connect to the server and keep getting 2002 error = . =
