Absurdly high latency in FFXIV but not any other game

So, I returned to FFXIV after not playing for a...while. The lag is horrible, and almost unplayable, with spikes into the 4k+ range as soon as I get into trials/various other duties....normal wolrd questing it bounces from 200+ to 3kish....as a retired network engineer and an avid gamer, this is supremely frustrating

tracert shows constant time outs in the routing step between

ae-2.r01.lsanca07.us.bb.gin.ntt.net (129.250.4.107)

and

xe-0-1-0-1-1.r00.scrmca02.us.ce.gin.ntt.net (129.250.195.46)

This frequent routing issue is causing the game to hit periods where it is almost unplayable, and makes playing any other time downright annoying....when you hit a skill and wait 8 or 9 seconds for it to go off...

I see this is an issue on the NTT network, so I suppose my question is - what's the best work around to solve the problem?

When did you begin to experience the latency issues? As the game is currently experiencing high traffic, you maybe experiencing connection problems.

I had the same issue before I quit temporarily about 7 months ago. I would have extremely high latency around 9 PM. I got around it by using a VPN. I chose WTFast, but you can use whatever. Thankfully, my connection takes a less congested route now.

Since the early access launch I’ve been experiencing a very slight lag at random intervals manifesting as other player characters rubberbanding. Is this due to the high traffic too?
