I'm all for it! One of the things I love about this game is how diverse people look, especially in the mid levels. It would be great if people could customize appearance separate from stats from items gained either from crafters, or drops from encounters.

I don't particularly care for the whole "Make a tank look like a caster" approach you are taking, but it would be nice to have a variety of styles available to acquire and choose from.

This would a wonderful aesthetic addition to the game. I very much enjoyed altering my appearance in Rift. So if my upgraded gear looked drab, I'd keep the appearance of my cooler looking gear by putting it in the wardrobe slots. ^_^

That is one thing I have always hated about MMOs. Wearing items just to look "cool" while you stand around town afk or chatting. Then go to battle looking like a clone along with everyone else.

I can only see it being very confusing to identify classes at distance while in PVP with casters in plate and meele in robes, in smaller skirmish situations it would be hard to judge the strenght of your opponent by looking at what level of gear he/she has.

If this turned out to be a major issue they can limit it to just armor you can equip. That's not an issue with me.

I'd rather be able to dye any gear(exluding AF) into any colour and also would like options to add cosmetic items to armor pieces(gemstones, chains, sigils, straps etc).

To me adding chains, gemstones, sigils, etc are just too small of a detail change and would require more work and have less of an impact then what I propose.
The purpose of such a proposal is to allow us to look how we want regardless of in battle or in town. If the system needs to be limited to only what you can equip, it would still allow creative freedom to the community. More MMOs are starting to get rid of the "Endgame Clone Wars" so why does FFXIV need to continue such a war?

I can't wait to get my AF gear but as a Paladin why would I have to change my armor just to keep myself from being gimp in the future, if I enjoy the look. On the other hand as a Free paladin why would I need to look like a uniformed paladin just to gain the bonuses it gives.

Some may see this as a "cheap" dat swap but the impact on the players using it would be anything but a cheap experience.

Gear will gain more meaning than what stats does it have.

There should be an option to turn it off. Immersion is so subjective, people who want their own custom gear can use it, but people who want to see the default still have the option.

Why bother ruining it for one group or the other? The keyword is options!

Exactly and that's how it works. You have to take it upon yourself to use the STYLE TAB, it's not forced upon you.

The Equip Tab is just what we have now and by default would be the UI you see when you try to switch armor. You will never go to the style tab unless you decide to click on it.

If you have armor in the Equip UI but none in the Style UI then you will by default look like the armor you equip.

I agree with your concept, but don't like how you've specified certain elements. I don't think allowing thaumaturge run around in full cobalt armour is a particularly appealing idea, will just make things confusing if anything.

However, I do like the idea of having a "style tab". This is actually not something new, and a lot of F2P MMO's earn their money through selling gear that is purely for aesthetics. MapleStory is probably the most popular example.

So I'd like it if we could buy gear purely for aesthetics that have no stats on them to put into this "style tab" rather than use existing gear. Seasonal gear like the reindeer outfit would fit perfectly within this system too.

I think the chance of this style tab idea actually being implemented is sadly quite low, so another decent way to allow more character individuality would be to just have tons more colours and variations on the current gear we have.

I'll support anything that lets us wear the gear setup we like for looks, without having to worry about stats. I know for one that I look horrible in a Bliaud, but we all know how people look at you if you dare show up in something lesser for *cough*primals*cough*.

I kinda like the idea, but I think there would have to be more restrictions. It'd be very confusing to me in a party if all the melee's looked like mages and vice versa. But I think the idea is somewhere on the right track.

I hope you're right. I would really love it if a system like this was added. I think the endgame clone look should be an archaic system of the past.

This is my journey and I go through my own experiences, so why at the end of the road do I look like every other John/Jane Doe around me.
