Scholar Level 60 job quest

This quest was a pain in the butt before 5.0 from what I've read.

I'm having a hard time with it post 5.0, due to having to remove debuffs from NPC's that I can't target using my keyboard, but rather must target them with my mouse. My ilevel is over 250, so I'm pretty sure it's not because I need better gear, but rather more skill.

I have been told by guild mates that the PS4 or Xbox controllers are easier for targeting friendly NPCs. I have these controllers. But I can't imagine why that would work better than mouse and keyboard except the devs have implemented a "tab targeting" cycling method for them that doesn't exist for keyboards?

Whatever. This is a really badly designed job quest since it uses conditions that I will never encounter in PvE group content. As many of the job quests do, which is perplexing, but not relevant to my problem.

I just want to know how many people have completed this quest post 5.0 (because some of the spoilers suggest I need to dps, which has been nerfed), and whether you used console controllers or keyboard/mouse, and whether or not simply trying to target the friendly NPC's was needed, or something else.

Tips would be appreciated, but I'm ok with being told "You need to get guud" despite the fact that there is zero content that I would ever play my scholar where I needed to protect NPCs that I can't target with my keyboard, instead of my mouse, which this quest appears to require.

Numpad keys emulate the controller targetting, same keybinds as a DPad.
