New FSH bait, Boilies

So, are these sorta maybe the compromise solution to the oft-requested tackle box? All purpose bait, salt and fresh water, plus dunes and clouds. I'm sure it'll be some time before the dedicated FSHs really work out catch rates or whatever. But, they kinda sound like they're meant to be suitable replacements for a very wide range of baits which, in theory, you may never have to carry around again.

Supposing that, in practice, the more specific baits may still end up better to use if you're targeting specific fish. But, maybe hopefully these can clear out a little bit of inventory space for some (that are likely holding onto excess bait that they could just purchase as needed anyway).

Have heard some complaints about them being totally non-selective on fish. With the standard baits, you could avoid catching some of the trash fish, these apparently you catch everything, wanted or not.

Yeah, kinda what I started realizing there at the end. Can't really think of situations where you're not targeting something specific, and would actually want to just catch anything and everything.

Didn't really think of the implications of that though.
Whether it's cooking, leves or just grinding out the highest exp per catch fish, you typically don't want to get anything except for one specific fish.
Which makes bait that catches everything pretty self defeating.

For levelling these new baits are super as I no longer need to have all that other stuff in my saddlebag. Once levelled though and when I would want specific items then they would be an issue.

So I guess its great for grinding through levels but when you want that specific thing not so - unless you don't mind doing a spot of fishing and tossing back in what you do not want.

Maybe. Personally, tho, most/all of my leveling has been specifically trying to fill out the fishing log, while turning in leves along the way. I suppose if you wanted to just smash through so you can equip better gear and not have to worry about any thresholds..

It's an awkward thing, to be sure. I appreciate the sentiment of trying to alleviate the bait burden. Maybe misses the mark a little bit in execution.

Sadly I think this well-meant attempt to alleviate the "bait strain" missed the mark considerably. When reading about boilies during first announcements I got really excited and had hoped they might work like a menu, where you can select WHICH of the 238238 ARR baits you want to "use" at the location -- I simply couldn't imagine the devs would really do something as unspecific as what we got instead. Now I find myself wondering... has anyone involved in developing boilies ever really done any serious fishing? It certainly doesn't look like it, and as it is I think they border on useless, given any serious fisher will usually only go for specific fish and therefore needs to select bait accordingly.

Really a shame, given my saddlebag is by now almost entirely filled with bait... >.>

This isn't for the serious, targeted fishing. It's for people who are still leveling and don't care what they catch, or the people trying to fill out their fishing logs without worrying about having the right bait n them at any given time.

I'd find them useful as a leveling fisher. I was rarely after anything specific, and often just fishing to get places added to my list, so being able to carry one stack of bait that works everywhere sounds like a great idea.
