    WoD(L) reaction after dungeon finish

    Hello eorzeans,

today i'd like to ask a question which boggles my mind recently. Lately whenever we finish a dungeon our avatar just closes their eyes and looks downward a bit in silence.

Before this happend they were pretty ecstatic upon finishing a dungeon.

Does this have to do with the recent knowledge our WoL(D) gained with everything or is he/she just simply tired of pressing on?

Just a question that was on my mind.

    Greetings
    Aoi

Probably because the Lightwardens were people who were corrupted and she's just contemplating that.

The thing is.. i think we already did that in late dungeons of stormblood. And also in dungeons were no lightwardens were involved.

I'm guessing you mean one of the after-MSQ dungeons? Specifically one that's very time oriented? Yeah the reason they're closing their eyes like that is hidden behind the story of the dungeon you collect during the run and in the cutscene after. Given who was involved in that dungeon and what happened I'm not surprised with WoL got depressed. It /IS/ depressing.

There’s only been a few dungeons where we have bowed our head like this before.

The most memorable is after defeating Edda in Tam-Tara HM. Because of what happened to her, and because we knew her from very early on in our journey. Our character also repeats this motion after defeating her on Floor 50 of PotD, and when we defeat PotD’s Floor 100 boss. I think the latter is us just contemplating his words—where he asks us if we would not desire for us and ours to cast off the fetters of mortality and escape death.

As mentioned, I think this is our character’s way of mourning the fates of the Sin Eaters. Knowing what we know about how they were once real people. I believe that’s also why a lot Sin Eaters are usually named with “Forgiven X”—what they have become is no fault of their own, so we find it in us to forgive them for the sins they committed as a Sin Eater.

However, this is just my interpretation of it.

Makes sense. Thank you. I always thought he/she is just simply tired.

Not just those. Like HyoMinPark said it seems to have to do something with the dungeons backstory. If it continues the trend i strongly believe what i originally said. We are tired to no end.

Most dungeons earlier in your career were adventures, searching ancient ruins for treasure or clearing out bandits or whatever.

They were fun, you were killing beasts, zombies and bad guys, and you were getting money and loot for doing so.

It's all so much more morally ambiguous and higher stakes though these days.

Interestingly, there was one late ARR dungeon which handled the after-battle pose uniquely - at the end of Wanderer's Palace HM after defeating the boss, before the player's characters can do their victory poses a throng of tonberries rush in, and (offscreen - the camera is still focused on the player party) it's assumed they stab the now defeated and helpless mamol'jaa boss and tear him to pieces, resulting in a humorously horrified expression on the character's faces. Considering what the mamol'jaa were doing to the tonberries during the dungeon, one may think their rancor towards him is justly deserved.

But yeah, the times when the player's character does not do the 'joy' emote at the end of a dungeon is usually the times when the story for that dungeon is more tragic or saddening.
