    Big list of questions!

I play on a 42" TV...is there a way to get FFxiv fullscreen?

Where do I get those Grob-thing mounts?

    What are those colored parenthesis?

Is everyone else a bit tired of the UI, as well?

Is there any way to pop up more than one hotbar, rather than cycle through them?

Is there a way to unlock the battle camera? I like re-situating it during battle, since half the mobs I fight move on me.

Is there discussion on 'notches' and 'chop at' and stuff, and how...they should be labeled? I'm wondering just how the tradeskill communities (mooglebox.com, for example) were even able to figure this out and why a normal player can't figure this out.

How do I know what element a monster is?

Someone finally told me the command to turn off the character's helm display. Where do you find out these text commands?

Where do you find out valid macro commands and functions (like if I put one ability and its combo ability, will it function, why and why not?)

Is there any discussion on making the map window more user-friendly?

A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S. Is there a list somewhere with the definitions? Like WS...I know that's an ability, but I have no clue what it stands for. AF, too.

Is there a way to accurately predict how much damage an ability will do, especially over another? Finding a personal cast-order is difficult.

Is there an easier way to shoot someone a /tell?

How can I change the target filter?

Is there a way to not be able to target my own character?

What are factions for? I was finally able to get a leve because of it, but...looked no different than a normal leve.

    I think that's it...for now.

Thanks to anyone who can answer these!

Hrm, time for answers for what I can:

Don't know how to run fullscreen, I personally hate that setting because I alt-tab too much so I never looked at it

The colored parenthesis are the auto-translate function. You press tab when writing if i'm nto wrong to pull up a list of therms and select one. Whatever is in colored parenthesis is seen by the other players in whatever their native language is. Useful to talk to people from other countries.

A normal player can find that out, I presume it was found out by trial and error and isn't there a tutorial of osme sort? Never did gathering myself

By throwing elemental abilities at it, if you notice a specific element deals a lot more/a lot less damage, it means it's a good/bad idea to use it.

This part should answer that, I believe

Second verse, same as first. Mostly, for advanced help you'd need to ask other people, I guess.

There probably is, but it's old. You'd need to search for it

Ugh- A pain, but a lot of acronyms are brought over from XI and they are more often than not user-created so it doesn't helps. The classes and jobs have official acronyms that are visible somewhere but i'm not sure where, i'm sorry
To answer you direct questions, WS stands for WeaponSkill, which is basically a TP-based offensive move. AF is a completely player-created acronym to refer to job-specific equipment, it means 'Artifact' which is not the official name, but it is also the one the community adopted.

Not really, but usually those that you learn later will deal more damage, you just need to check what they do. Presumably due to the combo system you're going to use them in sequence anyway.

Not that I know of, sadly. I wish there was

Depends on what your target scheme is set for in your options, there's a command for it that should be shown somewhere in your keybinds.

Theoretically with the Enemy target filter you won't cycle targets on yourself, but can still target yourself by clicking.

Factions are for special leves, really, which give special rewards

Hello! Let me see how many of these I know!

What are those colored parenthesis? Those mean the statement inside the parenthesis are from the games built in auto translator. To use that feature, start typing something then press tab to populate the auto translate. I use it for Congratulations all the time because I am lazy! XD

Is everyone else a bit tired of the UI, as well? I've gotten rather use to it at this point. Over time you learn to work with its quirks. No doubt it could be better and will be eventually.

Is there any way to pop up more than one hotbar, rather than cycle through them? Not that I am aware of. You can make Macros to make triggering multiple abilities easier.

Is there a way to unlock the battle camera? I like re-situating it during battle, since half the mobs I fight move on me. Yes you can! Got to Menu then Configuration then Target Settings > Under Targeting Type select Type B then under Target Cursor Type select Type C

Is there discussion on 'notches' and 'chop at' and stuff, and how...they should be labeled? I'm wondering just how the tradeskill communities (mooglebox.com, for example) were even able to figure this out and why a normal player can't figure this out. This website should help! Its a lil hard to explain http://www.disciplesoftheland.com

How do I know what element a monster is? Unless its obvious, I have no idea how you tell.

Someone finally told me the command to turn off the character's helm display. Where do you find out these text commands? The text command is /display head on or /display head off

Where do you find out valid macro commands and functions (like if I put one ability and its combo ability, will it function, why and why not?) I dont know where you can find a list of these! >.< I just know them! Try searching on google and such for a list! Several good resource sites out there!

Is there any discussion on making the map window more user-friendly? No Idea

A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S. Is there a list somewhere with the definitions? Like WS...I know that's an ability, but I have no clue what it stands for. AF, too. Most are Final Fantasy 11 references! I didnt play 11 but I have picked up the meaning for these from just asking people. AF = Artifact Gear i.e. the fancy new gear that just came out! WS = weapon skill! If someone uses an acronym you dont know, just ask! The FFXIV community is very helpful! =)

Is there a way to accurately predict how much damage an ability will do, especially over another? Finding a personal cast-order is difficult. Just takes time and practice

Is there an easier way to shoot someone a /tell? Ctrl+R

How can I change the target filter? Press the "up" arrow and cycle to "Enemy"

Is there a way to not be able to target my own character? Just be on "Enemy" target lock but there is no way to element yourself that I am aware of

What are factions for? I was finally able to get a leve because of it, but...looked no different than a normal leve. Fraction leves give extra reward such as gil and gear

Hope that helps dear! I'm not an expert sooooo if any of these answers are a lil vague, I'm sure someone else in the community can clear it up for you! Take care!

The only thing I can really add (everyone else has pretty much said what I would have) is that with Ctr+R, if you push R (while holding Ctr down) you can cycle through all the previous people who have sent you tells. This resets during every shut down of the game but its an even quicker way of sending someone a tell who you were speaking to an hour or two ago while having been speaking to other people. Hope that makes sense. Get two friends to tell you in game and try it, you'll see what I mean ^^.

    *edit*

To run full screen, change the window option in the config menu of the game. Be aware though that if you alt+tab or hit the windows key in full screen the game will crash.

    *^^*

I play on a 42" TV...is there a way to get FFxiv fullscreen?
    - Start Menu > Square Enix > Final Fantasy XIV Config > Configuration > Display set to Full Screen

Where do I get those Grob-thing mounts?
    - 1) get to lvl 30 on a class, 2) talk to bard npc @ npc camp north of Bloodshore in La Noscea (forget the npc name and camp name)

    What are those colored parenthesis?
    - Auto Translate: partially write a word then press Tab to see a list of available auto translations, this is to help players other than your native language understand you better.

Is everyone else a bit tired of the UI, as well?
    - Nope, but 2.0 is fixing that

Is there any way to pop up more than one hotbar, rather than cycle through them?
    - nope. 2.0 will bring addon feature, we should see player created ui customs after that

Is there a way to unlock the battle camera? I like re-situating it during battle, since half the mobs I fight move on me.
    - turn off target-lock and/or auto target lock in your in-game configuration

Is there discussion on 'notches' and 'chop at' and stuff, and how...they should be labeled? I'm wondering just how the tradeskill communities (mooglebox.com, for example) were even able to figure this out and why a normal player can't figure this out.
    - its trial and error just like in rl.
disciplesoftheland.com is a good site too

How do I know what element a monster is?
    - fight it. See what abilities it uses most. Learn the game through exploration.

Someone finally told me the command to turn off the character's helm display. Where do you find out these text commands?
    - lodestone > left sidebar > playguide > other features > text and macro commands

Where do you find out valid macro commands and functions (like if I put one ability and its combo ability, will it function, why and why not?)
    - lodestone > left sidebar > playguide > other features > text and macro commands

Is there any discussion on making the map window more user-friendly?
    - yes. SE already confirmed this will be more user friendly in 2.0

A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S. Is there a list somewhere with the definitions? Like WS...I know that's an ability, but I have no clue what it stands for. AF, too.
    - these are player created acronyms, aske the players as you play. Over time you will learn them, its a small part of MMO right of passage (WS means Weaponskill, AF means Artifact Armor/Gear/Weapon, JSE means Job Specific Gear (same thing as AF)

Is there a way to accurately predict how much damage an ability will do, especially over another? Finding a personal cast-order is difficult.
    - practice makes perfect: learn your class/job through trial and error. Theres no substitute. It will make you a better player in the end.

Is there an easier way to shoot someone a /tell?
Ctrl + R responds to someone who already whispered you. You can also send tells from your Friend List and other search menus.

How can I change the target filter?
    - In game configuration > Target Settings. Look those over and learn them: option A is best for players who use Gamepads.

Is there a way to not be able to target my own character?
    - dont target your own character :P target something else. This is a silly question.

What are factions for? I was finally able to get a leve because of it, but...looked no different than a normal leve.
    - Normal Leves are for earning faction credits. Once you get enough points for that specific faction you can attempt a faction leve. You complete faction leves in order which will unlock a faction leve NM fight. The NM drops key items which cam be traded to an npc along with other craft materials in order to obtain a armor or weapon that isn't very useful but can earn you an achievement if you complete each set.

    I think that's it...for now.
    - cool

Thanks to anyone who can answer these!

If you want to use the internet and play in full screen, launch FFXIV using steam!

You can CTRL+R to respond to the person that last /ted you, or you can CTRL+T to /t the person you last /ted.
