If I were to make lore, Fenrir would be her pet wolf that kept her company as she waited for oschon, but thats just me. Or at least the summons could be the spirtual pet of the 12 like phoenix as Azeyma the wardens pet phoenix, or Ixion as Raglahrs steed.

Its all good for the typos lol I make a ton too tryings to type out my thoughts before they escape.

Ff myth is based on rl myth from all religions. Its the way ff series roll.

The Twelve is similar to the zodiac. Menphina being associated with moon is most like the Cancer of Western zodiac.

Something tells me that SE should stop mentioning any classes, jobs, races, or anything that concrete from previous FF games because people read way too much into things and assume that they're going to implement a 100% carbon copy into FFXIV.

I don't think anybody is assuming carbon copy content is SE's goal. What can be assumed is this:

-Squeenix is a developer of franchise games, and they have strong branding and recognition in all their franchise games.

-FF is full of reused names, places, enemies, character archetypes, etc. Eg. If there is a character that is good at building stuff, chances are, his name is Cid. Don't even get me started on the recycled content in the Mana series.

-This recycling is what builds that recognition, and it usually is not a carbon copy. More often than not it is used as a frame of reference, or an identifier for the player.

That being said, it is SAFE to assume that when Squeenix says 'summoner', we are probably looking at a pseudo-caster that brings elemental beings into play, either as spells, or since it was lumped under pet classes, as pets. Until they release some information on how pet classes will work, all we can do is speculate on the more intricate details. And using past structures is as good a base of speculation as any.

I am very excited for the pet classes (with the exception of BST) and I would like them to be base classes rather than jobs. As pet classes are traditionally built around the pet, I think it would work best if they got all of the abilities and traits tailored to a specific pet type from level 1.

That i know of fenrir has allways been related to the moon. Darkness and death, even in advent children fenrir is said to represent clouds guilt and grief for his lost friends. And follows him around.

Actually ice makes a lot of sense for Fenrir as the name is based in Norse mythology. This was mentioned above but Fenrir in norse mythology is a creature that eats Odin at he end of Ragnarok (the Norse end of the world) or something like that.

Besides, Fenrir in Final Fantasy has represented just about every element under the sun. In FF9 he was an earth summon and punched your enemies into space with a giant stone fist (making him one of my favorites ).
