The Poll question about player classes, specifically pet classes.

I was really disappointed with the way this class was presented. The three mian contenders for this role are very different from each other and appeal to different types of player. Personally I'd love to see puppetmaster back, hated summoner and had no interest in beastmaster. Some will hate PUP and love SMN, others still have a lot of love for BST but may be meh about the others.
I think the poll should have included an option to specify which type of pet class they preferred if they had voted for a pet class.
My other choice was for something new ( since SAM wasn't on the list) who doesn't like the idea of SE giving us something we haven't played before?

Could be that BST will be the class, and that PUP and/or SMN both are its advanced jobs?
With only 7 classes currently in the game I could see SE doing somehting like this with their pet class implementation.

The only thing that makes me sad is there was no option to vote for Samurai.

I dunno about that one. I mean, it makes very good sense, I'm not disagreeing with that. I think it makes sense to have a pet class feed into the pet jobs, but I also think that the pet classes are so different that needing to use one in order to unlock another is silly. Like OP said, I lovelovelove Puppetmaster, and the only thing that would get me to play Beastmaster is if I had to level BST to unlock PUP.

And I think that having a generic pet class that feeds onto all 3 jobs might be a bit boring. I mean, the only kind of pet that would sensibly fit into all 3 classes would be a summoned-mechanical-monster. And to top it off, you would only (as of now) get 5 abilities that are distinct to your particular kind of pet as a job. AND you would only tend to use the pet you really like in party situations as the jobs are designed for party play.

I think a way to introduce pet classes and jobs would be to add a class and job for each.

-Summoner could be based on like an Elementalist class that summons those little elemental guys. And then the summoner can summon more powerful creatures, at the cost of available cross-class abilities.

-Beastmaster could be based on a Tamer class that essentially does the same thing as BST, but BST is designed more for party play.

-And Puppetmaster could come from Puppeteer or Gadgeteer or something that has a Puppet but it is more generic like the Harlequin, and Puppetmaster unlocks the ability to change the frame and head for a more role-specific puppet.

Another way (and a way that doesn't add 6 new classes/jobs), would be to have each pet type be its own class. And then the same pet-enhancing job is availiable for all 3. And then the pet you use is determined by your weapon.

-For Example: I have a lvl 40 Puppetmaster and a lvl 35 Summoner, and since I don't like BST, it is 0. I can do the job quest for a Mentor job or Familiarist job. So I unlock Mentor as puppetmaster and summoner, but not BST because I lack the prerequisite levels.

-As mentor, I can equip H2H weapons and whatever summoner uses (bows or wands or something). That weapon determines what pets I can use as well as which base class abilities I have access to (all of puppetmasters abilities if using H2H, etc). Then the mentor class abilities tend to enhance pet abilities, regardless of pet type.

This way you can have the pet type you want from level 1, rather than unlocking that pet type at level 30 and only being able to use that pet type if you are in job mode.

Sorry for the long post, I just think that Pet jobs are going to be tough to implement well in the current class/job structure.

    EDIT: lemme get more detailed

I see it more along the lines of

    Summoner:
    Main Class: CNJ
    Minor Class: THM PET
The summoner is a support style charcter that can also participate in damage dealing. Giving it elemental magics and curatives alllows it to freely be a DD or fall back on support. But thats just the player. Each summon would have its own unque abilites to bring to the table. And dont say OMG THATS TOO MUCH LYKE FFXI SUMMONER, because think about it, how is a summoner supposed to exist huh?

    Beastmaster
    Main Class: PET
    Minor Classes: ??? ???

I dont know, really but being a beastmaster means having full control. Being an absolute master of the pet class. Beastmaster should be the job, not the class.

    Puppetmaster
    Main: Either PUG or PET
Minor: PET if PUG is Main and ???

Puppetmaster would either be from PUG or the new pet class. in the case of pug, it would use the pet class's supporting abilites the same way a summoner does. A Close combat evasionist DD with supporting abilites of an interchanable mammet. I say pup should major PUG because there is a mammet right there in the platinum mirage.

    Hi guys.

In the French Poll, last line of classes/jobs part has an "arithmetician" suggestion. Was it the same name in english ? Thanks.

Could I just maybe advance the theory that they weren't talking about the FFXI classes as in copy/paste but rather the generic idea of them being summoner/beastmaster etc?

Also, I voted arithmatician because killing people with math sounds pretty boss.

I like most of what you said. I just think that it would be nice to be able to use your desired pet from level 1 as well as in parties. The pet is what makes the class special. Summoner is cool, but having only 5 summoner specific abilities makes being summoner not so different from being Puppetmaster or Beastmaster. And its the same with the others as well. Going from having tamed mobs to having a puppet doesn't make much sense. The way you presented BST made much more sense, I think. You went from a Pet class to a pet job, where both are based around the same pet type, making the Job abilities mesh with the base class abilities.

I just think it makes more sense to have the specific pet type available from level 1. And then have either 3 unique jobs, or a more generic pet job that enhances the abilities of your pet regardless of pet type.

Well its 5 abilities per job but dont forget if smn get ability summon garuda garuda has a ability list for herself.. This would aply to every pet for each pet job making all pet jobs very different
