Since the whole class is a tribute to Squall, and he's not really a tank, I wouldn't really expect anything realistic from the class. Rather, I'd equate it to the standard anime badass trope, the guy who doesn't use or wear anything practical and simply just fights with cool moves and stances. A duelist that focuses on style over everything else.
Probably gonna agree with the "badass" anime trope. Because isnt there a whole cult following about some dude with a tiny shield? Tiny shield man? Man with the tiny shield? Something like that.
