I want to add my personal reason why I find Sam so satisfying. I'm kind of a technical person and I get a lot of enjoyment out of successful executions of things (I play a lot of guilty gear strive btw) and Sam really rewards that kind of playstyle. The skill ceiling seems to keep getting higher the more I play but the sounds, animations and abilities are solid as well.OP needs to play ninja as I said before. There are a lot of Sam's but most just play it for "mah katana".
I initially believed SAM to be a very simple class when I first picked it up but as I played more I started practicing things like third eye usage and finding it so satisfying whenever I line up my burst rotation perfectly for huge damage.
A lot of jobs are boring while leveling. Samurai doesn't really start to open up until 62+ when you get enhanced kenki generation. At 80, you can build for a faster skill speed, which I personally enjoy, with a 2.0 GCD which helps keep it a bit busier. Then there's the shinten spam in between.
But Samurai isn't really meant to be super fast and flashy. They're the swordsman, landing precise, beautiful strikes and finishing with a hard hitting ability. They were a little more fun in SB before they nerfed the flexibility if the class, but I still find it fun to play and one of the best built jobs in the game.
And it's got just enough extra things to help with the skill gap, like using Third Eye at the proper time and know when you can Meditate.
Boring is not a word I would use to describe SAM. It's an elegant job, and performs an elegant dance of powerful and precise strikes. I think the intent behind this job's design is that it replicates that same kind of craftsmanship that goes into high quality, combat ready Japanese katanas. I actually think that they are not quite there yet, and this job can be improved upon.
It has the power, now it needs the gorgeous aesthetic that Japanese katanas are known for. That's not to say that it doesn't have nice animations and sound effects now, or that it has to be flashy; but there are definitely ways to make this job feel and look superior to how it is currently.
I really like the SAM with a Skill Speed hard cap of 1827.
With that I still get a sufficiently high critical rate.
I am mostly faster than the SAMs who play with a soft cap of 1320.
Optimized on the right secondary stat before saying it's slow. If you only focus on Crit > Hit, it's normal that it's slow.
Plus there are plenty of non-GCD skills to fill the gap and dps more.
You never see the animation of all GNB skills what on earth.. their continuation combo is so fast you miss half the animations on the skills. Personally really love Samurai and it's skills, they feel impactful, SOUND impactful and look smooth as f*ck. And when you play it right getting that uptime and using your movement properly it feels great, the job has some problems some of which are addressed in EW. If you don't like the job just dont play it. You can make plenty sam style glams on other jobs anyway. My fave melee is still monk because i love the faster pace but I still have to give midare the nod as one of the most satisfying skills to use! Hoping to play both jobs a lot more in EW.
