Soo...is it just me or is Samurai very boring?

Don´t get me wrong. I love Samurais and i Love using Katanas. But especially BECAUSE of that fact i am so sad i have such an hard time to enjoy my Sam. When i play him i get bored instantly but when i play another job then i feel frustrated im not playing Sam right now.

There is such a weird feeling that is in my way to make me feel enjoyment while playing samurai. It is actually my favourite job at least i want him to be it but whenever i play him something makes me feel so bored of him.

Why is that? Am i the only one with that problem? My only theory i can think of to explain that is because most of samurai skills never get to see the full animation because you are using so many skills with him so you miss alot of animations compared to jobs like gunbreaker where you always have enough time to see the full animation.

and what also frustrates me is that samurai got the most boring skills out of all jobs for shadowbringers. the only skill i love he received is "shoha" the 80 one but the usage is very bad because you have to charge 5 times for only an attack potency of 500 so this skill is useless because in that time you can make much more damage with other skills or am i wrong?

if all skills of samurai would have an animated skill like shoha i would like him much more. there are skills like kasha & gekko that i enjoy to watch but every other skill is so boring.

i dont know, its ironic .. when i play him i feel bored but when i play another job then that i like more then i feel frustrated im not playing samurai right now and feel uncomfortable.

can anyone help me with that struggle? xD

ps. it is also sad that his level 76 skills dont have cooler animations. its just the same skill animation. i thought all 3 Iaijutsu geht new animations for their stronger version at least that would be so cool but it seems like its just the same skill... so sad

In the middle of a fight I don't have time to stop and look at the skill animations, so I can't say I share how you feel in that regard. I play a job because I enjoy its specific playstyle and it lets me do what I want to do (either support my party or deal damage). To me it sounds like SAM just isn't to your liking, but you're trying to force yourself to like it simply because you like Samurai. You sound like you're the type who prefers flashy Samurai abilities shown in things like Anime, while the game's version tones down on flashy effects save for a few specific skills which means you probably just won't really be happy with it. Not really much to do about that though, I'm afraid. It's either you play the job simply because you enjoy how it plays or, if the bland skill animations are too much for you then your only choice is to just give up Samurai and find another job you like more.

As for Shoha, it's pretty bad for a level 80 skill but you can use it during forced downtime though and just get in a quick attack when the boss is targettable again.

The sense of speed and excitement from any melee DPS job comes from how you weave and double-weave oGCD abilities in-between your regular weaponskills. Samurai doesn't have a whole lot of this but it does have a little, and will help make the job feel more exciting when you know how to use this properly.

Some jobs were all about this, like Monk, which is where it got its sense of speed and flow as your weaponskills on the global cooldown are slow without things to fit in-between, but because Shadowbringers forcibly regressed MNK now it no longer has enough oGCDs to do that comfortably, making it far more boring to play than it was before, a complaint you'll hear about a good chunk of the DPS jobs. "Great QoL additions but too much was taken off the top and now it's a duller shell of its former self,". Not sure about SAM in 5.0 since I haven't tried it out, but assuming it didn't have anything critical to its single-target rotation like MNK did you should be fine. I'd recommend trying to learn about and practice weaving with the skills you have, and get used to using your positionals as well.

    Hope that helps!

@kaozurei i totally 101% agree with you. its just like you said. but it is so sad to accept that fact! Because of that i think its crystal clear now it seems like i wont be able to main samurai anymore even if its very frustrating. But if they did not develop the samurai id love to have i shouldnt force myself to play him because he wields a katana but his actual gameplay bores me.

@valstormbreaker i will try it and give it a chance. thanks for your reply too

I've been looking for a post like this, and I Finally found it!
Samurai is EXTREMELY BORING. How is this not a huge issue? I simply do not understand. Of all the jobs currently in the game, SAM sells its fantasy for me the absolute least. Its so slow, so boring, so uninspired to play and look at that I genuinely FALL ASLEEP playing it.
Why is SAM, which in this iteration is supposed to be based on the 1800s, the rebellion against the government version, feel so slow? so focused? The combat style it feels like its communicating now is more akin to that of the 1600s, Sengoku Jidai period. With the huge armor. But they didn't want to go the tank route (which i agree with) so they made it 1800s, but failed to get the FEEL of the 1800s, the rebel against government.

We should have gotten 1800s aesthetic and 1800s feel (dps, what I want) or 1600s aesthetic with 1600s feel (tank, I don't want, but at least it matches)

Instead we got 1800s aesthetic with 1600s feel.

    What happened?

It’s not supposed to be fast. It’s supposed to be slow and powerful.

There are several other melee DPS that fill this role.

    Maybe try MNK?

Funny, I wouldn't describe Samurai as 'slow and powerful.' The only mDPS I'd ever describe as that, is Ninja back when it had the HW rotation. Which Mudras helped inflate and made it feel faster, otherwise it was a pretty 'slow,' laid back class despite its GCD.

That said, SAM can feel awfully slow while leveling. Shoha is a silly ability and, combined with Tsubame-Gaeshi, can really make the rotation feel very, very fast just off those 2, but especially when combined with everything else. I describe SAM as the single most technical class in the game, currently, for a reason. But not the hardest. That still belongs to Black Mage.

I kinda wish they went with FFT version of SAM. Using magic to unleash sword skills and melee heavy weights.

It seems to be a problem with your values. You want to play a Samurai, but the XIV SAM isn't your cup of tea.

That's like Dave Mustaine being frustrated that Metallica was successful, even though Megadeth was a giant of metal of its own.
