That sounds like a "Not my call to make" moment. Taking on some upstarts trying to free Minfillia is one thing. Attacking the Crystal Exarch is another entirely. One thing that confuses me about his first appearance. Why let the crystal exarch go? He just helped to spring Minfilia out of Eulmore custody and help the WOL and Friends escape to Il Mehg. I would think the time for diplomacy is passed and he could just capture the CE. Afterall the CE even says he's out of tricks now after stopping Ran'jit from giving chase.
Not to mention that if he wasted time with the Crystal Exarch he would give Thancred and Minfilia time to vanish again. He has been chasing after her for 3 years since her escape and has not been able to get his hands on her. He only got his hands on her when she split off from Thancred to head towards the Crystarium. He did not want to allow that vanishing act to happen again. He can deal with the Crystal Exarch at any time, it is not like the Crystarium has any soldiers on his level or the level of the troops at his command.
I think ran'jit came off as too powerfull and granted he used some cheap moves when we first met. But he isn't anything like zenos or ascians. Quite frankly the wol should have kicked his ass one two three that first meet.
i think he was wary of exarch while exarch said he is out of tricks he knows that the exarch has been alive for a very long time perhaps longer than even him. and cant be sure he doesnt have a way of protecting himself.

Notably, Emet-Selch assumes he has the Exarch comfortably under his thumb as a hostage, and the Exarch then pulls out the ace in the hole of seven other heroes that ultimately allows us to overcome Hades. Ran'jit was right to be wary.
The Crystal Exarch gives off that Dumbledore/Mad-Eye Moody/Gandalf vibe. Not someone you want to mess with.
Besides, knowing that the Crystal Exarch helped stop the Lakeland Lightwarden, Ran'jit knew it would not be an easy fight.
And if anything, the final fight against Ran'jit should have been a trial, not a solo instance.
If Vauthry can get one, why not Ran'jit?
If Vauthry was like the Palpatine of the First, doesn't that make Ran'jit Darth Vader?
Emet-Selch was the Palpatine of the First, Vauthry was the Darth Vader only completely irredeemable due to having no connections to anyone. Emet-Selch was the one who created Lightwarden Vauthry in order to complete the rejoining plan. Emet-Selch was also the one to try to turn us into Vauthry's replacement by stalling us.The Crystal Exarch gives off that Dumbledore/Mad-Eye Moody/Gandalf vibe. Not someone you want to mess with.

Or maybe Vauthry is the Jabba the Hutt since they're both fat and hedonistic. Then Ran'jit is the Boba Fett since he's on Vauthry's payroll.Emet-Selch was the Palpatine of the First, Vauthry was the Darth Vader only completely irredeemable due to having no connections to anyone. Did you miss the part where he casually summoned a whole raid of WoL's across time and space? Or how he duped Vauthry? CE merely went there to buy time, and buy time he did. There is absolutely NO indication whatsoever that Ran'Jit would have an easy time battling against the CE, who's only sign of weakness thus far was being shot in the back.He can deal with the Crystal Exarch at any time
The only reason people have to assume so is: CE was handled in a manner where you were never fully certain of how powerful he truly was - not until post-Innocence and the ending - and the fact Ran'Jit (just like Zenos in SB) was handled in the same "I'm stronger than you... Until you level up" manner.
If going by the Crystal Tower questline in ARR, and being the only one who can use the Crystal Tower, its safe to say CE is pretty damn powerful. Not to mention that CE spent god knows how long in the Tower to master its functions and abilities.Did you miss the part where he casually summoned a whole raid of WoL's across time and space? Moreover, he's the only one given the All-Rounder status in Trusts, which shows his versatility.
