@Zyneste It wasn't usually in dungeons. It was in 8-man raids. Mainly in the Omega fight. And to be fair, I wasn't always depending purely on the Drain for this. My Paladin friend would also Clemency, but it often took both to keep me alive when healers were being shitty, but there were numerous times I got myself up just enough to survive a raid wide aoe by spamming drain beforehand. With competent healers, of course, I never cast Drain. Like I said, I'm perfectly fine with it being removed, but it was fun to make use of in those rare occasions where it was actually useful.

As absurd as this sounds, I would rather die than depend on Drain. If I have to spam a low-potency unaspected nuke to heal myself by painfully small degrees, I would rather go down in a blaze of high-potency DPS and watch from the floor as the train wreck unfolds.

Then I would find decent healers and carry on.

I also miss BLM having some kind of solo sustain for adventuring in the overworld that isn’t chocobo-based. Drain was nearly useless but it did save me a couple times in open world quests or fates or whatever.

Here’s what I want: either make Scathe upgrade into (instant cast) Drain, or make Lucid Dreaming restore HP as well as MP.

In most "clutch" situations, Manaward has already been used. Manaward being on cooldown has nothing to do with such situations "happening frequently."

There are no such situations for BLM where Drain would be meaningful.

Ok, so, mostly I'm in agreement here. Through SB, I'm not sure it ever saw any use from me, besides "for fun." The heals from it basically never covered whatever incoming damage you probably have in a situation where you might think Drain could be useful.

BUT! I have seen exactly one scenario where Drain may have still served a purpose. PotD (and probably HoH I guess?) floors with the "No regen" effect. Hey, I know, everything here is a bit paper, and killing things faster would probably still be the better option. But. If you've got nobody that can heal, and you don't want/have potions to rely on, it might've done, like, a little something, maybe.

In a party it was probably useless but I did use it very often for solo content especially early on when soloing elite mob FATEs. It definitely had its uses in solo gameplays, sad to see it go, it felt like something a blackmage would have. . .

Really?. If you have a tool that can keep you alive and you don't use it in a situation where you'll die if you don't, then you're being a bad player. And once you're dead, you're doing NO DPS. It's just as dumb as standing in an aoe that will one-shot you because moving means interrupting your spell cast.

This. In any content where you thought drain will be required to not die, odds are you'll still die because it's heal was so miniscule. May as well get off another dps gcd before dying.

It was garbage, but I think it should've been buffed to actual usefulness than removal. I mean, it's a personal heal... And even it it was buffed, doubtly it would be competitive with Vercure.
