I'm a little bit leery of posting this because anxiety, but I had the idea and ran it through a few people and they seemed interested and to think the idea had merit, so here goes.
So, there's been a lot of talk about how the Hall of the Novice needs to be updated/changed to include more common mechanics that you run into in dungeons/trials/raids/what have you (stack-up markers, for example); there's also been talk about the mentor system and how it could be changed for the better. What I'm suggesting is something that may work on both fronts.
From my own personal experience, I am a very nervous gamer when I get into group content. Knowing that I could lead to a wipe terrifies me. I can watch all the videos I want, but until I do a fight, I won't know how to really go about doing it properly. With that said, I feel like it would be fantastic for new players, rusty returners, or anyone really, if they had a mentor who could actively SHOW them mechanics in a stress free environment that had no stakes. Something where a mentor could take people into a party, go into a sort of instance similar to the Hall of the Novice, and actually pop mechanics on people for them to practice.
For instance, you go in with a mentor and other party members. The mentor slaps down an active stack marker on one of the party, and you're encouraged, in this stress free environment, to practice stacking. Or they pop towers around the area, and the party has to spread out to stand in them for the mechanic to be executed properly.
You now have mentors actively participating to help people in an environment that isn't hostile, where there's not a timer ticking down or worries about gear breaking. There's not other people there immediately wanting to pull before mechanics can be explained. You have new/returning/practicing players there who are wanting to learn.
I do know of some MMOs in the past where players could make maps, with monsters and the like, that were implemented into the actual game for other players to run, but I don't think I've ever heard of something like this, and though I don't know programming or anything, I -think- it's feasible. I think it could be a great boon to the community as well!
