I logged into the game and the first thing I noticed was the new little movement guage next to my HP/MP/TP bars. Personally, I don't really see the point in it. I use a game controller to play, but I'll just press X on my keyboard if I need to walk. It's almost always in my lap anyway. To me, it just seems like a waste of processing time, and added work on already heavily worked graphics cards (until the new graphics engine comes out (the update that I'm most excited about)).

I wanted to apply for a change of servers from Figaro/Aegis to Besaid/Sarg-something. I took a look at xivpads, and it looks like that server's going to have the most amount of people on from the US. It seems like Figaro is really full of Japanese speaking people. I'm sorry, I'm not a linguist. If you're going to send a bunch of shouts out, use the auto-translator as much as possible. I cannot read Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji. I haven't had time to get onto the lodestone until now, not with my hard drive dying and needing to re-install Windows and get everything up and running again on my second hard drive. I went to go apply for a world change, but it was to late. I missed the deadline by a few hours. It sucks, but shit happens.

As for the new Jobs system. I'm noticing that as of right now, the jobs are like they were in the original FF. They're powered up versions of the starting classes. I'm working on BM right now, the classic power spells (Freeze & Flare) are nice to have, Sleepga is new, and I don't think that skill needed to be made. A simple change to Sacred Prism or even better... a BM skill that takes any single-target attack/enfeeblement spell and turns it into an AOE spell with a slightly longer cast time and it should negate combo use to keep the skill balanced. The only major thing that I think should be changed is making it so that killing monsters from the job's quest list should NOT drop the classic design gear. The job's quest list should give the job power-ups (Enmity+, Strength+, Vitality+ for tanking jobs; Enmity-, Intelligence+ (for BM)/Mind+ (for WM), Piety+ for casteers; and Strength+, Evade+ and Accuracy+ power-ups for physical DPS Jobs such as Bard, Monk, and Dragoon. The classic gear should ONLY drop from super hard boss battles such as primals and timed instanced raids. Making it so that the classic gear drops as part of a job quest makes it so that it's way to easy to get the gear. I've soloed all of my job quests so far without a problem, up until "Gearing Up" because you need a full party to get into the areas. I just think that the classic gear should be extra hard to get. Making it so that new NMs that are around Lv 85+ randomly drop a piece of classic gear at a 3% rate or something like that. I just think that making us players work for something is more rewarding than simply saying here, you've been leveling your characters for the last 2 years, so we're going to just give you this classic gear as a thank you for your support. I know that some would say that the areas that you have to go through are really hard to do. My response is that I'm not questioning the difficulty of the area, I'm questioning the methods on which the gear is awarded to the players. Don't become WoW. Keep the game challenging. That's a major reason why I keep getting the FF games. I love a good challenge in a game. Don't make this one to easy, that's what ruined FF12 for me... the gambit system (-_-,) I die a little inside when I think about how boring it made that game.

I kinda think SE made the right decision. Save the harder stuff for later when the game is more developed. Now is a time for motivation on a wide scale, and this way of presenting the classic gear is a perfect way to introduce the new job system to everyone. Making it too hard to obtain just shuts too many people out of a particularly exciting bit of new content before the re-release at 2.0, and we get to look cool while testing and determining pros and cons to the system. After 2.0, I'm sure there will be many chances for SE to provide challenging ways to upgrade the classic gear, or perhaps introduce "relic" versions like FFXI did with Dynamis and make them rediculously tedious to obtain.

I do agree that challenge breeds inspiration and garners a feeling of accomplishment upon completion, but that should be saved for something truely powerful, not just some Job quest and it's rite of passage... I believe the classic gear is just a taste of what's to come, and hopefully will motivate more people into participating in that crazy difficult endgame content that will start poppin' off when the game truly kicks off. Of course me personally, if I'm to be tested, I want an actual challenge with a definite reward. I don't need another drop-rate induced time-sink like FFXI... but that's another topic altogether.
