Best option inho is try both really. Opinions are a personal thing so the only true way is just try both, see if either tickle you.I'm looking for an advice. ATM I am leveling a summoner, but right after that I plan on pushing ahead one of two tanks, gunbreaker or dark knight. WAR and PLD both feel unappealing to me, but between those two I cannot decide which one to go for. I like rotations, ideas, the way they look... one feels like hulking dark monstrosity, other like "light on his toes" kind of tank.
Either way, I am curious about two things: ability to dish out the damage (for solo play) and ability to sustain temselves (damage mitigation + self healing), and I would appreciate opinions - what are your experiences so far for those two fields for those two tanks?

This is the best advice I can give. If you listen to the more..."vocal" people on the tank threads they'll try to convince you DRK is literally the antichrist and you'll be giving yourself an aneurysm simply by selecting the job stone, while none of them are taking in mind that what they dislike about the job may have nothing to do with what you enjoy in a tank.
DRK's AOE is solid and they have a busy rotation when OGCDs are up, but it's not super complex. TBN is extremely good as a personal mitigation and has a nifty counterattack mechanic in the form of Dark Arts.
GNB is more active but their personal mitigation is a bit weak to my understanding (still leveling mine so speaking secondhand here). Really flashy though, in style they have all the tanks beat IMO.

What he said.
Also keep in mind that the expansion just dropped, lots of things changed and probably will change with future patches, lots of people may not like those changes. If you had no previous experience with DRK or any of the other tanks you might like the "new" DRK. Also if it comes to dps, as others mentioned, the tanks are not that far apart and for solo you wont have any difficulties at all.

Got DRK to 80 today and im loving it.
Note: I played DRk in HW and SB as well
But Im planning to lv up all tanks eventually and switch then when convenience asks

Glad to hear you're liking it, I'm enjoying the new DRK as well (at 78 currently). Gonna do GNB next so this thread's literally right up my alley.
Do not concern yourself with damage for 'solo play'. There is nothing solo that cant be obliterated by any tanks dps andthey are all pretty close anyway.
Similarly sustain is a non issue for solo play. All tanks have a number of ways to slowly regen their health. All solo content is designed to he conpleted as dps classes and their damage is tuned to that. If it is fit for a dps it tickles a tank. Your passive regen is usually enough to stay alive forever on any solo content.
Tldr: solo content is utterly faceroll for tanks. Just play the one that seems more fun. Gun is busy. Drk is weighty. The aesthetics are pretty clear. If youre not sure try them both then decide.

GNB is lots of fun and I'm glad that I choose it to be my first class to level 80. I will be levelling DRK once my GNB is geared for raiding.
Agree completely.Gunbreaker, no question about it.
Gunbreaker also didn't end up as 'ammo arts' as I thought it might, it feels unique, I'm really enjoying it.
Dark Knight is just a knock off of Warrior in spikier armor, I guess if you like Warrior that might be alright for you, I just can't grasp the logic of turning a fairly unique job into a reskin of another though.

DRK main from all the way back in HW here, don’t bother. It’s a boring brainless job at this point where you basically spam 1-2-3 ad nauseam until you get to spam 4 for 10 seconds every 80 seconds.
