    Error 9005 or 9006

    In the last few days and once prior to early access I got strange disconnects. It was either error 9005 or 9006. It threw me back to the character selection screen only to inform me that authentication has failed.

    This leads to a temporary lock down of my account with a warning about "changes to my connection or suspicious activity" and me being encouraged to change my password. I had a few disconnects in the years before but never like this.

    One thing strikes me as odd here. I got the mail with the warning about the suspicious activity exactly 2 hours before the disconnect occurred.

    For now I assume that my ISP is making changes to it's routing and that is causing the issue.


    To answer the most common questions that very likely will be asked.
    - I have not made changes to my connection or connection settings
    - No changes to any software before this started to happen
    - No windows update either
    - Not using a VPN

    I apologize for the delay in our response to your concern. If you are experiencing a log in restriction, please reset the password lift it. The connection error you are experiencing could be caused by congestion and many people attempting to sign in. If using WiFi, please try and connect directly to the router. Please also make sure the game is allowed through the fire wall as well.

    I just had this again. This time I at least remembered to note the error codes.

    It was an error 9001 which lead to a 5003.

    This is the third day in a row I have to change my game password because of random disconnects. Also this time it happened roughly 2 hours after my first login to the game. Going to write this down because it maybe helps to identify the issue.

    Another wee Update: I restarted the router to see if that helps somehow.
    The quote serves as a reminder for me so I don't forget.

    I am no stranger to random disconnects here and there and the 9001 and 9002 errors.

    The new thing that has been going on in case is, that these disconnects always lead directly to the auth failure error 5003 and the security measure where I have to change my password. Sometimes I don't even get the automated mail informing me about it.

    Today it happened again roughly 2 hours after I started playing. Yesterday I reset my router to see if that helps. Looks like that wasn't the case. Had to change my password again because of a silly disconnect.

    This time I got the mail notifying me about the login restriction 90 minutes before I got disconnected.

    Before you throw the suggestion to get an Authenticator at me. I ordered one and wait that it arrives in the mail.

    If so; there is an app for the security Token.

    What kind of connection do have and what is your ISP? The Log in Restriction could be caused by logging in at a different location or signing on from a new network. Make sure when you are logged onto the game, you are not logged onto the SQUARE ENIX ID on a different location (such as being logged onto the Mog Station and being logged into the game on a different device).

    Just as Drakkin said, getting a security token would help alleviate the Log in Restrictions.

    I do have a cell phone and I am aware of the software security token. I went for a physical token because I very well remember the pita that was removing a similar token from my Steam account after my old phone got stolen.

    Now for the other questions:
    - My provider is 1&1; I already contacted them but am still waiting for any kind of response
    - I have a DSL connection and my computer is connected to the Router via cable
    - I only access the game and sites like the Lodestone with one device


    I use Opera as a browser of choice and I am aware it has a build in VPN. That is disabled.

    There are still two things boggling my mind.

    1. This security measure is only triggered on days I log in into my Square Enix account via browser. Maybe this is a coincidence.
    2. Why have simple disconnects become security concerns in the recent weeks?

    A small observation which might be worth further investigation: The disconnects through the triggered security measure only happen on days when I log into Square Enix websites (The store and the account management site to give examples) while being logged into the game.
