Clarification on MP bar for non-mp users.

One of the biggest design changes that I'm sure most people are aware of by now is the removal of TP for all Jobs. While this doesn't have any affect on the jobs that have mana as their resource, It's still feels a bit off or strange for jobs that actually got use out of it, however minor it was.

Yeah you never really ran out of TP ever unless you just happened to be grouped up with another physical melee/ranged dps that felt like doing their ST rotation on large trash pulls, but something about it's removal and no other resource in place feels really odd. I main DRG so I'll use it as a example, we have no resource cost on any of our abilities and the 10k MP bar just sits there taking up space.

That's precisely what felt odd about it, I actually checked in the HUD to see if I could hide the mp bar because that's how useless it is for anyone that isn't using it. This really isn't a complaint, I'm just trying to understand what the point of having the mana bar displayed on Jobs that don't use mp now that tp is completely gone. I'm pretty sure I'm not missing something so correct me if I'm wrong. I also can't recall if they gave a actual reason for the removal of tp and non-mp resource costs.

If anyone can either make sense of this or just straight up let me know if being slightly concerned over this is a non-issue. Please let me know, thanks.

Somewhere down the road, non-MP users will use MP, I think. Other than that it's probably for lore reasons, since non-Garleans have an MP pool of some sort but TP was never really mentioned in the stories.

You could argue that hiding both the HP and MP bars together wouldn't have much impact on your play. As long as you've got a healer watching your HP, do you really need to see it? Doesn't apply to solo so well, but, eh..

It could be in the future they'll continue moving resources to job-specific features, but, "MP" is a pretty generic standard thing for an rpg. There may or may not be examples throughout the genre of characters that don't use MP at all still stuck with the resource because every character has it.

Shoulda just made it so physicals get the TP bar, and magicals get the MP. But I suppose things like PLD really throw a wrench into that idea.

The removal of TP is just a bad decision all around. One of the biggest shocks, and therefore best learning experiences, for me was while leveling Warrior. Spamming Overpower destroyed my TP bar. First few times I did that I discovered quickly how to better manage my TP and how to better manage threat without relying on lazy methods.

While TP was not a concern in most fights, it still had its place for AOE. Its removal concerns me because I've watched other MMOs start pruning things "because it's rarely used and/or seems unnecessary" and those MMOs aren't doing so well anymore. One of the things I boasted about FFXIV was that the devs didn't succumb to bad decisions like other MMO devs. I'm afraid I can't say that anymore....
