Black Mage Questline

Haven't gotten to hit the Shadowbringers questline for Black Mage yet, but think I glimpsed something about it referring to golems again.

I love being a Black Mage. I love voidsent and Mhachi lore. I love the invocation of Nald'Thal. I love that it is a full-throttle destructive form of magic and how that freaks out some NPCs.

Really enjoyed the original Thaumaturge questline. Was okay with beast tribe shebang. Liked the bit where we get side-eyed by conjurer Zhai'a as possible mass murderers. Was... weirdly disappointed with Shatotto and the golems.

It just feels like the most bland and boring direction this job quest could take given all the lore that ties in. Mhach raids are for all classes, along with their voidsent. Nothing special gets referenced for Black Mages there.

I really, really hope Shadowbringers doesn't keep fixating on the generic rock monsters and adds more lore-relevant twists. Don't know if people generally agree or disagree, so curious to hear your thoughts. Won't be offended by debate! :)

I haven't much cared for any of the black mage quest arcs. They just come across as super emo. But the Shatotto arc in SB just annoyed me. But that's mainly because I detest any character that boasts about being super powerful and walks around with their nose in the air like their shiz don't stink. Especially when they repeatedly display constant weakness.

Lol sounds like we might have different tastes in story stuff a bit. Imo the most emo thing about Black Mage currently is the color scheme, and then it's kinda arguable. XD I'm into angst and dark stories though. Sounds like that might not be the case so much with you? Also sincere question, you have a favorite job questline for the game so far?

I don't have a major problem with arrogant characters, but I'd like them to still have dimension. Shatotto just felt flat to me. Tbh it would have been more interesting if she got called out for compensating a comparatively low power level with snobbery.

I do have a fave. I wasn't expecting it like it, especially considering the early quests, but PLD is actually my fave. Especially the HW arc for PLD. The story had me eager for the next step and the fights weren't same boring "pewpew til its ded" like almost all the others are. After doing the HW arc, that's what I measure all job quest arcs to, even PLD for SB (and soon ShB). It wasn't as good in SB.

As for the arrogant characters, it seems like whenever that personality is used, that's all there is to the character. We can definitely agree that Shatotto was a disappointment. I've seen arrogant characters done well (the Illusive Man in Mass Effect), but too often they're written as "this character is arrogant! look how arrogant they are! they talk down to you! so edgy!" Writers, don't be lazy like that.

I don't know how this could spoil since I haven't played any job quest info. Just saw that the titles of job quests may have been leaked somewhere (days or weeks ago), thought about it before I could play anything, and talked about my opinions on past questlines. ;P No psychic abilities, level 80 access, or top secret info here!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say that lorewise our character is on a different reality. It wouldn't make sense for us to continue our job quests on the first, because chances are some of those jobs don't even exist there.
