I hope it's something they are working on to add later. Besides upping the level cap to 70, I hope they also add the possibility to recruit Viera and Hrothgar members.
I still have a twinge of jealousy everytime I see ye olde conjurer npc's toss out a Stoneskin.Ran a level 60 squad dungeon the other day, laughed at how the Arcanist was still able to use Shadow Flare, Gladiator using Convalescence, etc. So, likely they've done zero work on them while they focused on getting the expansion "ready" (in quotes because wow there's lots of small details overlooked with all the changes). Expansion launched, still fixing and tweaking some of those minor details. Might get around to updating squads after everything else seems stable.
I really hope they do, or at least add a trust system for the level 60-70 dungeons. cause I've been really wanting certain outfits from level 70 dungeons, etc. for glamour reasons, and I can't really solo the level 70 dungeon on my level 80, cause it takes forever...so I've just been dragging a few of my friends along and running it unsynced...and I don't want to annoy them by running it over multiple times until the item decides to drop. ><
Can I just use trust doing dungeons all the way to lv 80 dungeons?
I hope they dont drop squads they are way better than Trust alot of the time just clunky to use while Trust has the benefit of you can basically afk
But Squardons so much faster and they actually Aoe plus no one to steal LB aka ALISAE
people like doing barracks stuff??? that content is horrible and should be left in 3.0
I really get the feeling that squadrons are just another content that is released but will not get further updates. They can just say that you have trusts for everything over lvl 70 and thus why would they need to introduce it to the squadron too? And for the gap they can point at stuff like PotD or HoH. Honestly I wish that the trust system is given to the lower dungeons because they are much better than the squadrons imo. They are specifically made with the mechanics in mind thus you dont need to pray to RNG that they listen to you. (The amount of wipes as a Tank with a squadron is way too high..thanks for not healing me healer..)

Most people don't even have squadrons unlocked.I wouldn't call it niche. I'd call it essential.
Without quality NPC AI the whole dungeon experience is limited to speed running, and a significant portion of players don't want to do that content.
At the moment those players find any and all alternatives to leveling up alt jobs.
Fates, Levequests, and although it's a kind of speed run, Deep Dungeon is at least different enough some people just do that instead.
Yeah, I get it. It's an ONLINE GAME. And I will say that I absolutely love playing with others when it comes to stuff like Primal fights.
Just ... not the 4-Player dungeons. I can't stand it. I just put up with it sometimes and on some rare occasion I MIGHT feel like it.
Mileage on this point may vary from person to person, but in general, opening this content up to be taken on without the Rush is critical, not 'Niche'
Like all old content in FFXIV, once it's been replaced (in this case by Trusts) they forget all about it.
