Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.
If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your nextexciting adventurehealer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

Yup. Honestly, it's made helping my FC mates out while I slowly progress the story a lot easier. So many GNBs and DNCs, along with all the people enjoying DRG and BLM, that there's more room for healers to shine and take advantage of it lol. Almost none of my levels have been from MSQ completion.
How dare they expect you to heal on a healer

I mean, I would like White Mage to be more than just spamming Stone/Glare constantly for about 90-95% of the fight. But there's really no reason for that to be the case in group content.

Why? I keep seeing this vague reasoning, but no one ever has bothered to explain why "healers must have only one attack ability they'll spend a majority of the encounter using" is some inherent truth you seem to believe in.
For 6 years SCH had more than that, and people enjoyed it. If balancing needed to occur, then adjust potency/recast/mp costs instead of just gutting everything out and leaving the class feeling like a shell of its former self.
Over the last couple months the healer changes have been discussed at great length in many threats on multiple forums and other such venues. It has been said perhaps a thousand times or more that there is no need for more healing due to the low difficulty level of 99% of FFXIV's content. That this difficulty level would not change was predicted, and this prediction has proven true in Shadowbringers; even in leveling dungeons with no massive gear advantage GCD heal use is rarely necessary. The need for healing will only decrease from here on out as players get geared and learn the mechanics. The consequent problem being that with healing requirements met there is nothing else for healers to do than mash either their AE or single target button for 50-80% of their time.
At this point I believe it is safe to say: obvious troll is obvious.
A few points:
- Healers are so good at healing that they get down time.
- They get buffs to heals every expansion that make it easier to heal
- In their down time they DPS so they don't get bored, in the case of AST they use cards too
- They changed the way cards work, so a number of AST are finding it less fun
- They changed the way SCH DPS's, so it's less fun
- They have already gradually removed stuff from WHM, but even their DPS is less fun.
- Long-time healers are saying playing a healer role is boring, when they didn't before
- This was supposed to be the expansion where they were addressing healer issues and many healers are finding they've made things worse.
It's not about the DPS, it's about being bored, DPS is just a symptom of the bigger problem.
They want healers to heal more? Then don't take away what they do in their downtime. Make the content so that they have to heal more and make a strong use of their healing toolkit, so they have to push and optimise what they've got, because the healing is challenging them.
This means existing content won't be boring & levelling won't be as boring. New content could then push them to heal more and DPS less. However. it seems the approach they've take is to gut the stuff healers do in their downtime without putting something else there in its place. Hell I'd have been more in favour of going the other way of giving more than they had in their downtime. I see some people are fine with fewer DPS abilities, maybe it's not what they liked about the role. For example I was in a discussion with another SCH in my FC, we found we took up SCH at different points in the game, my vision for SCH is an evolution of 2.0's, his wasn't because he picked it up later, so we didn't agree on the changes needed. People of course enjoy different things, so I expect there are people who don't mind how 5.0 healers play. Whilst I would love to have what I enjoyed about 2.0 replicated in existing content, I'm willing to compromise at "I don't want to be bored".
I realise that some people didn't like the idea of being a healer because there was some expectation to DPS too and I guess SE doesn't want us to DPS so much. I feel the fair compromise here is to give us enough DPS stuff so story content, solo stuff & the level grind isn't a drag but fill our downtime with other support-y things.
It is annoying playing a role you used to enjoy to have changes gradually make it less interesting to play. But I have gone to play a different role instead. If enough healers are unhappy with the changes do the same, then it should show that these changes weren't ideal if forum feedback doesn't already do this.
