I've been playing as SCH since 2.0, but this expansion has forced me to play another class. Its healing potential is great, however, it is not fun to play anymore, it lost a lot of tactical feeling and control of fights, and its DPS is so bad, I can't even play Shadowbringers story because enemies take too long to kill.
I don't want them to bring back Shadow Flare, Miasma, or Bane, however, here's what I feel are the main issues, and ideas to fix them:
* No offensive use of Aetherflow: I can now play any dungeon and always have too much leftover Aetherflow. Energy Drain gave me an interesting balance between DPS or saving for mechanics/emergencies. Now without it, I can beat an entire dungeon and never use Physick, because I can always spam Excogitation, Lustrate, and other big Aetherflow Heals.
Suggestion: Give us back Energy Drain. Even if it has a different name, we need a damage skill that gives back mana. Quickened Aetherflow was also really fun to use and would like to see it come back.
* DPS rotation (both solo and in dungeon) is boring and lackluster. Art of War costs a massive amount of mana and is worse than Holy and AST's AoE ability. I liked Miasma II because I could just do it once, and meanwhile do other things, like protect the tank, or put Bio on enemies, before needing to apply it again, it also felt more different than how White Mage plays. Now as a Scholar, if there's 3+ enemies all I do is run and use Art of War over and over.
Suggestion: Give Art of War a damage over time component and balance its damage/cost.
* I like having Pet Skills in my hotbar, however, it's very annoying I can't tell Eos to cast something while I am channeling Broil, Physick, or Adloquium.
Suggestion: Make SCH and SMN pet actions usable while casting a spell.
* There aren't enough things to do, a lot of the time you stand around. Also, I feel Scholar has lost a lot of its identity as a battle tactician.
Suggestion: Give good Scholars something more engaging to do, without overwhelming new players. Let Scholars cast Bio on allies to give them a heal over time effect.
* With the 5.0 changes, some abilities have become useless or even the same. Deployment Tactics now is like a worse version of Succor, no reason to use it.
Suggestion: Change Deployment Tactics to affect all targets afflicted by Bio (read above suggestion). If ally: it consumes the remaining time of HP regeneration, transforming it into a shield. If enemy: it deals remaining damage instantly.
* Removing Selene was not the way to go even if she was weaker than Eos. She was a nice option if the Scholar is confident in their own healing skills, or if the party already has a Scholar.
Suggestion: Bring Selene back, even if she needs changes. Make fairy cast be instantaneous like Summoner, so newbie Scholars can choose to just have Eos, but veterans can swap both in the middle of a fight to use their abilities.
