Anyone Else Getting WoW Cataclysm vibes from Shadowbringers? It looks like on the map provided at the start that the First is just Eorzea given a new makeover from a Calamity. WoW Cataclysm was just Azeroth getting a new makeover as well, the result of a Cataclysm. And both were the 3rd expansions of their respective MMORPGs.



Am I seeing a parallel here that doesn't actually exist?

You are seeing a very intentional parallel. Kholusia is La Noscea, Amh Araeng is Thanalan, Rak'tika Greatwood is the Black Shroud, etc. The First (Norvrandt) is a reflection of the Source (Eorzea).

What a silly thing to say... They're both MMOs, what else are we supposed to use as comparison?

I know wow is ffxiv biggest competitor. But why do people feel the need to be like. "this expansion is like this wow thing" you are comparing two different fruits

They're both MMOs, they aren't different fruits. It's comparing apples to apples.

Yes, I'm seeing a quite a few changes that are disturbingly similar to Cata. Most especially the skill/spell pruning they did for ShB.

I mean that's not true and you can't speak for everyone. I actively play both WoW and FFXIV and I don't have an issue with either game. I don't understand why people get so uppity when differing games are mentioned. We're all a bunch of punks sitting at computers roleplaying being heroes in a virtual fantasy world.

I will say this though: peoples reactions here to various things (differing opinions, people who play WoW, etc.) definitely show the true colors of this community and I'm pleased with that. Everyone likes to pretend FFXIV players are absolute saints and perfect angels when really they can be just as nasty, petty, and two faced as literally any online, anonymous community.

Cataclysm caused a lot of players to check out of WoW. I've seen Dragon Ball Super try it and it turned into a mess. I saw the TV show Fringe try it and that became a huge mess. And that new Star Trek show tried that out and it turned into a mess. I'm worried that FFXIV is going down this route too. Once whole dimensions are at stake, it's hard to scale down the series before it burns itself out from being too big.
