Your problem is that Cataclysm didn't bring an alternate reality, it straight up changed the game world.

But as others stated, WoW didn't invent alternate timelines/worlds. Hell I think that was a plot point in FFXI.

At best this is WoW fear mongering. At worst, it's bad WoW fear-mongering.

I have nothing to gain from fear mongering, so you can put away the conspiracy theories.

You claim you have nothing to gain fear mongering, yet here you are...fear mongering.

And as stated it's not even good fear mongering because Cataclysm changed the map of Azeroth. Shadowbringers sends us to another planet (kinda).

It would have been better to say Warlords of Draenor or hell even Burning Crusade (tho that was actually a good expac).

I have watched many of my favorite franchise burn to the ground, so I've been conditioned to raise any red flags I see for discussion. I see no reason why I should hold my tongue and give the benefit of the doubt and neither would I classify this as fear-mongering. My motives aren't so sinister. However, accusing me of fear-monger or these other posts telling me to "leave it out" of the forum is poisoning the well and may very well cause some bad-faith discussions so perhaps we shouldn't continue this any further.

This expansion has made many more people actually consider buying the game and starting fresh characters. People have seen Shadowbringers and thought "wow that must actually be a fun game. I should buy it"

    You're worried for nothing

Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

Because you are literally looking at the most shallow thing and trying to draw a negative connection to something you don't like. That's why this is bad fear-mongering.

You could have pointed out the class changes, lowering of difficulty in dungeons/raids or something.

But instead your post was focused on the parallel world we're playing in which as stated is not unique.

I don't think your motives are sinister, but you are trying to wave to boogeyman of WoW to imply this game going down a bad road, then you did it wrong by just looking at teh most surface level thing and still got that wrong.

But...We've known whole dimensions were at stake for a long time...Does it only count when we get involved?

Kind of? It's a problem that you introduce a whole new system of rules and new characters that presumably cannot interact with the prime world, which often causes a story to become convoluted. In AAR we were trying to save 3 nation states. In Heavensward you tried saving just 1, and in Stormblood you saved 2 more and all 6 joined forces. The overall story seemed to be slowly building an alliance for the eventual defeat of the Empire. Now that we're dealing with an alternate dimension we're adding...2 or 3 more nations to the story? And they probably can't interact with the nation-states of Eorzea so either this story is just a sideshow, or we could get something really convoluted as an interdimensional army from the First which helps us out against the Empire. This early into Shadowbringers, I'm not sure how the new story links back to overall main story.

it's like years too late for that. ARR was more like Cata. "Big dragon smashes the place and we start over."

    The parallel isn't with Cataclysm.

    WotLK/HW - North/snow/ice
    MoP/SB - Asian theme
    WoD/ShB - Alternate universe

But they're all generic themes, so nothing to get worked up about.
