Regarding Character Creation on Congested Worlds

So up to this point I was led to believe that any characters created on a world after the first one didn't contribute to the over all world population because, for obvious reasons, you can only be online with one character at a time. Well I found out this morning that apparently is not the case since I couldn't create a new alt because Cactuar is full.

This sucks because I have two open character slots I was saving for a Viera and Hrothgar alt and had even paid to transfer an alt to another server to open one of those slots up.

Now I'm not going on an "OMGTHISGAMEISBROKENI'MUNSUBBINGUNTILIT'SFIXED" tirade as is custom when something like this comes up, just wanting to vent a little frustration because I was looking forward to having all my primary alts on the same server.

And to those who say "just transfer to a non-congested world": NO. I've been on Cactuar since ARR launched, I've invested way too much time and effort building up what I have here to just to throw it all away.

Yea my daughter wanted her own account, but ATM it won't let her make a character on the server I play on. So I told her she can play on a different server until she can make one on mine.

A whole new account/character contributes to the total world population. I was referring to alts on a character already established in the world.

Not sure what specifically led you to believe that. It's always been this way, though it was only really a problem for Balmung in the past. Once they locked it down as "congested", folks couldn't make RP alts anymore.

It was something I read on here a long while back. Something about how your account was considered as one character regardless of how many alts you had, which is why they gave us 8 character slots to begin with. I mean, why even offer so many slots if we can't even utilize them?

Those two things are not directly connected.
If a world is declared Congested you cannot create characters on it. Period. If the character would contribute to the overall population or not doesn't matter.
No new characters are allowed on Congested worlds. No exceptions.

The problem is when I checked about an hour ago ALL NA worlds are not accepting new characters. Makes things rough for current players but much worse New NA Players just joining the game find an impossible situation. (Caveat being I have not checked the Euro servers or Japanese ones)

Yeah, it stinks we cant create chars on aether right now, but thats mostly for launch stability. I expected absolute hellques, but even crashing every 15 minutes i didnt have any issues getting in. Just gotta be a little patient and wait for the opening rush to die down. Vent away tho

To make the rules simple to understand for one thing. Also to prevent people from doing sneaky stuff like creating an alt on a congested server and then transferring their old character to some other world.

Or perhaps the devs were just lazy and thought it was too much work to add an exception for alts.
