Just thought it might help when a server gets DDOS'd by giving a sort of reward to players to promote some of them to stop trying to log in over and over (in effect players become part of the attack).

Now I don't have a networking background so perhaps players barely make up part of the attack and its not worth it to SE to lower the power of the DDOS but also I think it could help players who are able to take a break but not sure to feel better about doing so (now they'd take a break because they can, and feel better doing so).

For those wondering why I say players can help lower the power in that if X is the number of bots attacking the server (very quickly), then Y players get disconnected an now Y - Z players are actively pinging the server in order to relogin joining X pinging the server (making the DDOS larger, even if X are doing it much faster). Z being the amount of players that decide to give up / take a break.

So now if the server gets struck like it is now when a player get's disconnected the server will inform the player there is an attack (or other wording saying the server is being heated into a melted flan), it will allow them to attempt to login or accept a reward to wait a bit. Even if this idea isn't used I still think the launcher could use with a notice that the server is being attacked (or just way too full lol), just to help players understand what is going on.

If you choose to wait you'll have a short timer on login before you can login again, that timer will be removed entirely if the server melting ends sooner than the timer itself ends (so you can rejoin as soon as it's declared better, even if you have time left). If the timer ends earlier you still get to keep your reward. Ideally the launcher updates itself every now and then so players can just look at the launcher (without trying to login) to see if the dust has settled.

I think the timer could start out small and grow as you reattempt, both for the server's sake and player sanity.

Say:
  • 1st reward - 15 minute timer - 10 free teleport tickets, 15 glamour prisms
  • 2nd reward - 30 minute timer - 5 more ticket/prisms, 25% rested exp bar (will go over limit if already capped)
  • 3rd reward - 2 hours - 5 more ticket/prisms/retainer tokens, 25k mpg, 25% more rested exp

These rewards are just random concepts, obviously can be whatever.

Perhaps the timers could be slightly offest too to encourage when people come back that they log back in at slightly different times (your timer is 15:30, mine is 15:45, another is 15:05).

Just a thought, may help the servers or may not help them at all - I'm unsure if the scale of players trying to login is anywhere near the power of the DDOSer's (like if it's 1% then it wont help, but if more then it could). Also of course it can help encourage people to take a break .

This system can be used whenever servers go down unexpectedly, not just for DDOS of course. So if a server just crashed for whatever reason players can be encouraged to take a break.
