FFXIV DDOS (server down) Reward Concept

I could definitely use a free fantasia right now.

Kind of shocked the CE didn't come with a Fantasia, new race and Fantasia (in CE) seems like a really good combo lol.

I guarantee you someone will DDoS just for the "rewards"

Can't say for sure that it's not true but I find it wild they have a botnet large enough to hurt SE and that they'd also use it just to get some free teleports... lol. I mean to say if they were going to do it they'd have done it either way, to use the resources "because" of the tickets I feel is the harder to believe part.

But I guess that could be a thing ;/.

Mostly I just wanted to see a system that encouraged people to take it easy when everything is up in flames. Go eat, sleep, family, whatever, don't worry and come back later.

Of course I don't want to see more attacks lol; though, I find it hard to believe more would come of it but I also don't know the people who do this sort of stuff - I guess it's possible they'd think they're hilarious for making it rain tickets. If it increases attacks then it definitely shouldn't be done, but if that's true then people bewilder me lol.

Lots of worries about this, and I have to admit I don't have their (DDOS-ers) mindset so maybe it would cause more issues. When I made the thread I really didn't think so (felt like if they were going to do it they were going to do it either way, minor bonus irrelevant), but seems like lots of people do so eh perhaps it really shouldn't be done then. . . That would be a problem of course.

I obviously DO NOT want more DDOS lol.

Was just trying to have a way to encourage people to take a break when things started going south (due to DDOS and even other random server issues, wasn't about early access really).

Made me disappointed that you judged me based on my server :/. . .

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad idea initially, but people will DDoS for the stupidest reasons. I have seen people DDoS for basic stuff in WoW, like they got banned and so decided to DDoS. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this DDoS is because of a lame reason like no Male Viera/Female Hrothgar (not saying it is, just wouldn't surprise me.)

Oh yeah, I gotcha . I had wrote this in-between being kicked out of the server and trying to log in, walking down stairs and getting a snack and cleaning up, and then logging back in without much issue - and was then reading some side posts upset about the ordeal while waiting for a FATE and thought "maybe things would go better if we just took a break, less stressful than staring at a screen trying to confirm entry".

It was mostly a quick concept based on good intentions but sometimes that can make things worse. There are somethings I'm probably far more difficult to be deterred from- like I really want a morphing job, and I argued to the depths of the Styx for Summoners to get bigger more grandiose egi (we then got Demi-Egi, so hype / yay lol), but this system is not my child that I'll care to fight for lol.

Just wanted to see what people thought about it, and not much is what people think about it haha.. Tis a dead one I guess lol. I mean.. I'd be for it more if I knew it would work, but I really don't.. just a "might be.." and if it doesn't it could hurt instead which is bad obviously . I'm easily persuaded on this particular thread.

The ddos wasn't even our fault. Or SE's... It was a random group ddosing a. Group of lines that happen to host ffxiv servers along with many many other places.

Also, you say people wouldn't ddos just to get rewards and your crazy to think that. A few years ago a group of people ddosed a bunch of servers(cod/destiny/battlefield/steam/etc) for no reason besides the fact that they thought it was funny to mess with gamers. (look up lizard squad) if you throw in rewards for it it'll happen way more often.

Yeah no. The servers were only funky for like 2 hours. This is an amazing reward in itself over two years ago. No rewards for downtime that's a free to play thing that should be delt away with cause let's be real people will play anyway.

The system encourages you to not to.. and the reward isn't big enough that you'd want to ddos the server just to get the reward (like if you put a relic in there then yeah they would).

Believe it or not, any reward (no matter how small, for example one aetheryte ticket for every year the server is down - as in if it goes back up for even 1 second during that timeframe, no tickets), will make more people DDoS. The fact there's a reward associated with it will encourage people. And a LOT more than you'd think. So while I appreciate the sentiment behind the suggestion, it WOULD make things worse.

I disagree. There doesn't need to be some form of compensation on SE's side for when the servers are under a DDoS attack. It downright sucks that this happens but why make them have to incentivize players to be patient? As mentioned players spamming back in is a drop in the bucket compared to what a DDoS attack entails. I don't know all the details about what a DDoS attack makes up but my understanding is that those responsible spam the servers with information on a large scale continuously far beyond what the server can handle. If a player gets disconnected and cannot get back online they'll usually give up after a period of time, unless they're that stubborn. And even then being rewarded for waiting until it clears up probably wouldn't be enough of an incentive for them not to keep trying anyway. Best course of action is to just step back and go find something else to do. Find a better use of your time than having to type out your information each time it fails.
