Native Monitor Refresh Rates and the New 90FPS Cap in Fullscreen

When running the game in fullscreen mode, the options for resolution/refresh rate are no longer accurate to the monitor connected. With a 144hz G-Sync display, the game now detects it as 85hz for some odd reason. The cap when set to Maximum is 90 and does maintain a constant 90FPS. However, to the discrepancy between the amount of frames being sent to the monitor and set refresh rate in game result in very obvious screen tearing and stutter even with G-Sync enabled. This is likely due to the setting forcing the monitor to remain at 85hz while sending 90 frames to the display.

This issue, in my particular case, is resolved by switching the mode to Windowed or Borderless Windowed and enabling G-Sync in windowed applications. Without G-Sync enabled, however, it will result again in obvious stutter and screen tearing.

A solution to this within the game engine could be to allow the game to allow the detection of monitors with a native refresh rate above 90hz, but force the 90FPS cap (if unlimiting the frame rate is out of the question). This would allow players with adaptive sync monitors to run the game like normal, and for those without to cap the FPS to half of their native refresh rate (72fps for 144hz monitors, 82 for 165hz, etc.).

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We apologize for the inconvenience the framerate cap has caused. With the recent update, the FPS limit has been capped at 90FPS, as mentioned in the patch notes. However, I will be collecting and forwarding your feedback. I recommend checking the lodestone for any future updates in case this cap limit is increased once more.
