Refresh rate hard locked to 144Hz and unable to change it.
Using DX11 and clicking play immediately crashes. Can play in DX9 but experiencing constant crashes and FPS drops to 0.



I have capped FPS (using in-game settings) to 72 but that still doesn’t allow me to use DX11.

Basically, use CRU (Custom Resolution Utlity) to add a new profile with 60hz, then go to the intel graphics control panel and set it to the new profile, and thats it.

For creating the custom profile all you need to do in CRU is double click your current profile then click the copy button,
close that window and click the add button under the current profile, click the paste button in the new window and replace 120hz
(or whatever your current hz is) with the new setting ie. 60 or 90hz.
Then you can press ok and close the application, after that all thats left to do is open the restart.exe that came with CRU, itll restart your screen, wait until its done and restart your laptop, you should be able to set your screen to your new refreshrate in the intel graphics settings now. No. You might be free and lose about hacking and cracking your system to bypass manufacturers hardlocked settings but Im not comfortable with doing that. I will have to sit and wait for SE.

This is a quick warning for all of you who use laptops:

If your screen is locked to 144hz for example, changing that refresh rate by the use of external tools will void your warranty. Do so at your own risk.

When I tried to set custom refresh rate it gave me warning that it can damage my laptop and it will void warranty. I would be willing to try it on an old laptop, but certainly not willing to do it on my pretty much brand new expensive laptop.

I am able to play if I disable DX11 and run off of DX9. I have had a couple odd crashes when trying to move between zones, but that could be the usual expansion lag getting me. I am not attempting to lower my refresh rate. I was able to play with my usual settings prior to the 5.0 patch and was able to run the benchmark just fine. Following the 5.0 patch attempting to launch with DX11 enabled always results in a black screen popping up (the game window) to the side and the error pop-up that others have shared with Japanese text and mentions of DX11.

MY FIX

I had the same error, posted the morning game came out and spent literally all day trying to fix it, trying every method here with no fix. Finally I plugged in an external monitor thats 60hz, loaded the game, once i was at character selection I unplugged the hdmi cord and now it works until I quit the game. It's just a quick fix for now.

When I tried to set custom refresh rate it gave me warning that it can damage my laptop and it will void warranty. I would be willing to try it on an old laptop, but certainly not willing to do it on my pretty much brand new expensive laptop.

You're very unlikely to damage your screen by underclocking it, but the point still stands: a voided warranty is a voided warranty. We shouldn't have to do this to play the game. SQe should have fixed this already. Heck, they should have just never implemented the framerate cap to begin with! Even if they'd done it properly it would still have been a crappy decision!
