Unable to Complete version check ... full panic mode :( Please help!

    Hello,

    Basic info:
    • Running Windows 7
    • Disabled and even uninstalled all firewall/virus protection software (was using AVG)
    • I have the Steam version.
    • I've tried the registry editing mentioned in another fix thread.

I've had this issue in the past, but I was able to resolve it by modifying a value in the boot file called FFXIV_BOOT.CFG but with the release of shadow bringers the error is back in full force.

I've tried editing the boot file with:

    "BootVersionCheckMode 0"

    and I've tried

    "BootVersionCheckMode 1"

But I still continue to get the error message:

    "Unable to complete version check."

    [30410][30607][20457][404]

I am at my wit's end by this point. I'm probably going to miss the launch if I can't find a solution soon. Its so frustrating that I'm half tempted to go purchase windows 10 and try an emergency install of a new operating system

    Update:

In my desperation, I've deleted everything from Steam related to FF14, installed the stand alone client, deleted the BOOT file discussed above, and its finally actually installing ... here's hoping it works!

If this doesn't work, go to your control panel and to internet options. Then under browsing history, press delete and clear everything that is ticked by default. That made it work for me

I have a fix for my issue posted and hope it helps you as well. but here it is in case others don't see my post.

    Use controlled folder access
Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
Under Controlled folder access, select Manage Controlled folder access.
Switch the Controlled folder access setting to On or Off.

That is related to high server traffic.

Just try again later and it will patch/log in with no problem.

    It happened with me too.

    ///cheers
