unfortunately youre wrong. (ERROR the DoT potency was wrong on my part)You actually gain more dps to let the dot on goring do it's full length than to just spam that.
Only 40 pot difference from rage to goring each hit. Goring dot is 85 pot over 21s. 85x21 = 1785/3 = 595.
Over 21s assuming gcd of 2.5s is 21/2.5 = 8.4. so baseline you will do about 8 gcds in the time the dot ticks. Takes 3 gcd to hit goring, so 2 goring over 21s for only 40x3 = 120 potency.
595 > 120, assuming my maths aren't wrong since I'm not super mathy
if u removed the dot from goring, it stil does more dmg to spam it.
the dot is just icing on the cake.

That's not how dots work. Tooltips show the potency of each dot tick. In the case of Goring Blade, that's 85 potency per dot tick, or 595 over 21 seconds.
That said, you're right about Goring spam being better, since its initial hit is 390 potency, while Halone is a 350 potency attack.

(Wouldnt make sense either) (EDIT: I know why, its because I know I have to figure out the total potency, by dividing the time by 3, then multiplying it by the potency. so i defaulted into thinking i still needed to figure out the potency per tick, when being mentioned like this, but i dont need to figure anything out, as the per tick was all we needed to know.)
But back on topic, the amount of dmg you get from the ticks between combo finishers doesnt change. which is why goring is still better.
If you "let it finish" its DoT duration, you just refresh it up with another goring blade.
so assume its up 100% of the time.
in both cases, its up ~100% of the time.
so all there is, is to look at which combo does more dmg on its own direct potency.
