I never understood the whole “derplander” meme, is it the face or something?
Also what’s up with midlander’s being called “cute” or “scrawny”? Mindlander’s have an average build.

Derplander is a nickname for the guy who appears in the trailers for some reason.
Derplander is the very specific midlander who represents us, the Warrior of Light, in pre-rendered cinematics and promotional artwork.
And midlanders are average for the rest of the world outside of the US. They're quite skinny by US standards.

The term originated with the release of ARR's original cinematic. People freeze framed on the shot when he returns to the present day and walks out of the forest area to look around. The cinematic gave him a plain dumb looking face in the shot so Legacy players affectionately christened him "Derplander" here on the forums.
Memes are stupid, full story at 11.
"Cute" can mean attractive. He is attractive in a cute way rather than a really handsome way.
...this suddenly explains so much about how discussions about characters being large/small/skinny/normal tend to play out. In an alarming way. >_<
