Personally I'm rather happy for this final role quest, it's even given me incentive to get up some of my jobs earlier then my lazy bump usually would.

So... you want something that is very easy to achieve to be changed because of your personal self-imposed RP restriction? In that case, my character would never fight primals since he is just a simple BSM, so it's unfair to have story locked behind them. Please change Squeenix.
Moreover, you don't have to do PotD/HoH to level a class. Run the classes you don't like through alliance/main scenario roulette (you can basically play like a rock in both as long as you do mechanics if needed) + beast tribes once a day until done. It's what I did for all of the classes I dislike like NIN/MNK. Takes like two weeks a job if you do it every day. Seriously, just level it up and then toss the weapon away.

If we go by "likes" more posts who like what the devs are doing have more likes individually compared to the original post against it.I made this thread because I had the feeling I wasn’t the only person who felt like this was a little bit unfair. Lots of people are trying to shout it down, but the original post is accruing likes. It’s fine to disagree, but I hope you recognize that we all approach and play the game differently, and that as long as we can succeed at group content, no one way is better or worse than another.

Incentive to play multiple roles and expand gameplay horizons is always going to be more important for the game than the self-imposed roleplay restrictions of a single player. This is a non-problem.
Maybe you should make RP characters that aren't one-dimensional, or actually partake in some character development to expand on what they're capable of. Maybe your tank develops an anxiety disorder after a bad experience and picks up magic to hang back and sling spells. Maybe that bookworm sch/smn gets ganked by a pack of mobs while her pocket tank is slacking off and decides she needs to learn to fight for herself.
There are solutions to your problems, you just don't want your characters to actually grow.
I do understand your feelings. I deleted a HW level healer only alt I had because the 20 levels in blm(required at the time for swiftcast) finally drove my ocd nuts and I had to delete and restart her.
But fortunately for me I do have a 'do-everything' main that I mostly play, so I'll be able to do the captstone questing on her. A few people in here have given suggestions on some alt jobs you could put on 1 character if you really want to see the story for yourself.
And maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the op as a 'this shouldn't exist because it interferes with my way of doing things' and more a 'it would be nice if stuff like this could be worked towards across alts'. Which I can agree with, along with a lot of the suggestions in the thread about possible qol changes for alts.

{That's too bad.}

OP, I feel you. I don't tend to level several classes on the same character either (for RP reasons), so I guess I won't be able to do that quest ;_;
Hopefully, it's not a very important one.
And whoever said this is about laziness, I want to see you leveling more than 10 alts through each expansion, like I have.

Self-inflicted problem. Also, most likely is going to be the conclusion of that story arc.OP, I feel you. I don't tend to level several classes on the same character either (for RP reasons), so I guess I won't be able to do that quest ;_;

Edit: Not to mention that all you need to do is pick the alter with SCH/SUM and level GNB and DNC on it.

Why not just ignore the quest??? There are a lot of quests in this game that have some sort of prerequisite that's necessary prior to undertaking them. This happens to be no different. If you don't want to obtain the necessary prerequisite for this quest, you can't complain that it "isn't fair". That's like going into Eureka and complaining that it isn't fair you can't get the last step of your relic weapon because you've only done Anemos.
It's not rocket surgery.
