I literally just bought an $1,800 new computer and 144hz monitor. So the new framerate cap pisses me off a lot. There's a reason PC games make a big deal about uncapped FPS.

I don't know anyone who's tried it, but I believe this puts VR headsets out of use as monitors as they require 120fps so the user doesn't get sick.

Seems arbitrary to cap fps. It hurts no one to allow it to be unlimited.

It is arbitrary. The reason I saw quoted elsewhere has literally nothing to do with fps; fps has entirely to do with your personal hardware. There is literally zero reason to limit fps; taking that option away from those of us who can use it is absurd.

Some games, including XIV, tie aspects to framerate. Physics are one, but another is movement, which can allow people to clip out of bounds. I'd rather the actual issues be fixed instead of putting a bandaid over them and punishing us in the process, but as much as I dislike them, FPS caps do sometimes serve a purpose.

Seems like it's not like this, since they do cap it. Either we don't know something or maybe it just was poorly worded and uncap is still there, but we will see at Friday.

The exact wording is : "The "Unlimited" setting under Frame Rate Limit in the Display Settings section of System Configuration has been replaced with a "Maximum (90 fps)" setting."

FPS caping only existed in the first place because consoles need to force the gpu to limit framerate so the console never had screen tearing and other visual issues specifically so that consoles could maintain the reputation of always running things perfectly (and to cut down on the amount of support calls and returns due to it!) These limits were maintained on PC games because industry contracts at the time insisted on insuring there was zero difference between different versions of a game (i.e., if a game came out on xbox, ps4, and pc, none of them could have content or changes that in any way were different from each other. This included graphics settings and the like. Since then, however, the industry has grown wiser to the differing specs of platforms, and no longer require it.

Since PC's will always massively outpace consoles in hardware, the idea of having an fps limit on PC's was kind of ridiculous - everyone had different hardware, and thus could handle different FPS's - therefore the idea of having differing fps limits for people to set so they could set it to one that their hardware could handle. Since the top of the line hardware could always outpace a companies ability to predict maximum frame rate, developers just stuck an "Unlimited" setting in their games for those who could handle it. It's compleatly standard in literally all games nowadays.

The reason they stated was that it interfered with the new AI pathing system. Which is completely absurd and they have no relation at all. One is server side and has to do with their coding and processing; the other is client side and has to do with the person's hardware. That answer is so absurdly dumb it's insulting.

There's 4 frame limit rate settings, none, 1/1, 1/2 and 1/4. 1/1 should put you at 144. None is the unlimited option. Patch notes say they are replacing the unlimited option with 90 FPS setting. Maybe its badly worded and what they really mean the unlimited is getting replaced with 1.5x refresh rate.

the problem i have with this is that the ingame fps limiter is uber crap, if i want to limit my fps i have to choose unlimited and then use RTSS because the ingame limiter causes a huge input lag on my rig (4770k + gtx1080)
