I’m going to assume you have never used or paid for a high refresh gaming monitor and video card. And I don’t really have the time or the crayons to explain it. Also the PlayStation is a computer that uses the same components found in a PC - CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, Motherboard. It does however lack most of the upgrade paths that a standard pc has and has a customized operating system created by Sony. The unit was designed to expand usability while keeping production costs down. I personally think that the Xbox and PlayStation are great machines in their own rights but some of us want more and expect more therefor we pay for more. So it’s understandable that when one of our favorite games cripples our hardware we would get annoyed.

There's one unlockable face paint style from a seasonal event a few years ago. (Spiderweb for All Saints' Wake if I remember correctly.)
Why? Did 144 fps upset anyone? The "Unlimited" setting under Frame Rate Limit in the Display Settings section of System Configuration has been replaced with a "Maximum (90 fps)" setting.
I think it's less about outcry and more of the fact some people reported having issues using SE's artificial FPS limiter. Some people had issues trying to cap it at 60 and had to run it uncapped, while other happen to have a 120 or 144hz monitors that would benefit more from uncapped FPS. This might negatively affect some people, even though they are far from being the majority of the players.
I am biased towards having uncapped FPS though, but I am more concerned about the reports about capping your FPS on XIV causing people some issues.
From what I understood they are just replacing the Unlimited FPS with the 90 FPS max without adding anything else to the options menu.
Whenever I tried to use the frame limiter it would always perform worse than unlimited, like I ususally hover around 90-120 on uncapped with occasional dips down to 60, but if I put the 60 cap on it dips down to 40.I think it's less about outcry and more of the fact some people reported having issues using SE's artificial FPS limiter. Frontline/ Rival Wings/ Hidden Gorge Mount Aquisition ~0.05-1% of active players. Community: "Ugh PVP is so dead in this game, they should stop investing in it"

The frame-rate capper always acted as a divisor against the uncapped framerate on my setup for whatever reason. If I get 70 at 120hz, hitting the 60fps limit takes it to 35, and then hitting the 30fps limit from there would be 17. Ended up just capping it to 60fps manually via drivers for consistency.
