Make gender locked items in Mog Station tradeable for their equivalent item

Let's go straight to the point and you can read my reasoning and explanation after that if you are still interested. Viera and Hrothgar players should be especially concerned about this.

I would like to ask Square Enix for an improvement of the Calamity Salvager with the addition of Mog Station gear with M/F versions, such as the Nezha Lord/Lady items or even the Yuna/Tidus one. I think it would be a simple and fast solution in accordance with their latest implementations of gear for the summer events. It's a system that has been working for years and which gets updated every once in a while.

I recently opened a thread telling how surprised I was when I realised some gender locked Mog Station items couldn't be traded at the Calamity Salvager. I wanted to get some information on the issue on future plans, as well as to inform other players in the same situation. However, a friendly user has told me it wouldn't really be of much use and that it would be better to start a new thread asking for some improvements. I think she was right, so here it is.

Some of the items on the Mog Station are gender-locked but can be traded for their equivalent piece of gear at the Calamity Salvager. Male Swimsuits can be traded for female one's and viceversa. The same happens with the Eternal Bond gear or the Snow/Lightning clothes. However, this is not true for every item.

With the implementation of the 2 first gender locked races, many players will find they are no longer able to equip some of the items they bought in the Mog Station. For example, I knew about the trade feature of the Calamity Salvager and tried to exchange my Nezha Lord gear for the Nezha Lady one in preparation for my Viera transition. Much to my surprise, this item is not tradeable.

I also have the Aymeric gear, but I already knew I wouldn't be able to equip it if I ever changed my gender since it has no female equivalent. That's why I wasn't expecting anything from the first place. It could be made unisex, together with the scion's clothes, but that's another story.

With the new races, I feel a lot of players will be at a crossroads deciding whether they want to give up on being the race they want or losing value on the money the spent because they won't be able to equip it again. I think spending money to change your race while still feeling some kind of regret in the back of your mind because you're still losing something is kind of uncomfortable.

Feel free to offer any suggestion and show your support. Please, avoid commenting if you are going to hate or simply say "it's your fault" or "no one forces you to pay money". I would like to have a constructive and fruitful thread that helps to improve the game, the services and the players' experience.

gender gear in game should be tradeable for the other yes. Mogstation? no, they want you to buy one or the other (or both). Also stuff at the calamity salvager is tied to achievements, and since there is no achievement for buying gear from the mogstation the game does not "know" that you have it, and warns you against discarding it. they would need to create a system to track such things and currently this does not exist.

not to say that it won't in future but anything mogstation i don't think you'll ever see an equivalent gender gear swap for free.

This is genuinely a reasonable request all things considered.

Why shouldn't it? You just said it shouldn't because they want money, but they already get money when we buy one of the versions. I am not asking for refunds. I said I understand things like Aymeric's or Lyse's have no equivalent, so that's a different matter. Also, why would we need in game gear to be tradeable if they are in game and can be obtained? If I want the Rathalos F gear I will simply kill it 4 times. On the other hand, I spent over 13 euros to equip my character with some cool gear and even though I switch races I would still like to be able to equip it.

You make the system seem too complicated but I guess it's quite simple to just enable a switch the same way you trade any other quest item. Even if that wasn't the case, I'm sure the devs would be able to find an easy way to enable that feature to improve the customers' experience.

I'm not sure but, do you have achievements for the Eternal Bond gear and the Lightning/Snow ones sold in the Mog Station?

    Thanks for your reply.

There's honestly zero reason for any gear to be gender-locked at all. Want it to look different on the other gender? We have that tech already. Use a gender-neutral name on the item and bam, done, the Calamity Salvager can take a break.

Since this feature already exists for the FF13 gear sets and a few others this isn't impossible to make.

Yes and no. The idea of an achievement system to track Mog Station items would be excellent, and would allow them to be added to the salvager, but the gender trade-in is a separate system to the "repurchase discarded gear" one you're talking about.

For the items that permit it, you need the item in your inventory as "trade currency" for the equivalent. You hand it to the salvager and he gives you the equivalent item for the other gender. No achievements required, you just go from owning the female version of the item to the male version, or vice versa.

The problem is that this is only available for a certain number of older event items, and has not been updated in years. It's not even (just) about not letting you exchange the expensive items, because you can't trade newer 'cheap' ones either. Evidently it's a shift in policy, and I have no idea when it happened but I'd guess it coincided with the introduction of Mog Station.

As I said in the other thread, it does mean you don't have icons looking nothing like the female version of the gear. (eg. you'd have to remember the giant princess ballgown looks like the prince's tunic on the icon.) It's more user-friendly to have the icons actually resemble the item you're trying to spot in your inventory. Though obviously having the option to swap them if needed is also valuable - just not encountered "day-to-day" so much.

I also suspect it's for the purpose of padding out the list of items crafters have to make.
