I look for friends. For people who are fun and like to run stuff. And the FC forms itself. (Mine did anyway).

Hmm, but how do you do that effectively? How do you get to know people well enough in an MMO if you aren't already spending regular time with them?

Similar to the challenge of finding a good fit for an FC - "try before you buy" would be the idea I suppose

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

Tangent, but I do think "try before you buy" is important for that very reason. IMO, in most cases, joining an FC should be pretty "no strings attached" for a month or so; if you give it a couple weeks and decide it's not for you, there should be no bad blood for leaving.

Agreed, but you never know. There's no formal etiquette for such things, nor even an informal established norm for them. Personally I like when FCs (guilds, clans, whatever the name) have a relaxed, brief interview where you can just ask a lot of stuff and as you say have no pressure to stay if it doesn't look like a good fit. It can be a really great FC with wonderful people who are fun and active yet not be a great place for you at that particular time.
