    Is crafting worth it?

I'm presuming the best of the best gear is obtained through raids and such, and considering how my combat levels are far outweighing my crafting classes, is it worth to go and level them up? I know you need level 20/19 to add materia to equipment, but is there any reason to get higher?

Any and all reasons are appreciated, I like the crafting classes, but I really don't see much purpose to making so much useless gear when I could be spending time getting closer to endgame raids and such ://

For raid progression normally you'll use crafted gear melded until you get said raid gear. Also you can self repair your gear if they're leveled high enough. Then there is culinary and alchemy that supplies raiders with food and stat potions. Oustide of raiding especially when an expansion comes out gathers will end up using food to get boosts so that they can get the harder mats. Then there's just eating food while leveling so the answer is yes crafting is very much worth it.

With level 70 crafters, you will be able to repair your own gear up to level 80 when the expansion drops. This requires leveling most crafters, though; especially if you play several different jobs that all use different types of gear—excluding CUL since it cannot repair anything. Personally, this makes it fairly worth it to me, as I can repair my own gear above 100% durability, thereby lessening the amount of times I would need to get it repaired. It can also be done anywhere so long as you have the appropriate Dark Matter on hand (including in duties).

For materia melding, your crafters have to match the level of the gear you are attempting to meld. So, for example: if you are attempting to attach a materia to a level 70 piece of Leatherworker gear, you need a level 70 Leatherworker.

For endgame raiding, I know several raiders who have crafters leveled to make themselves crafted gear when new raid tiers release—especially if they are looking for early progression/clears. They also usually have Alchemist and Culinarian leveled so that they can make their own raid potions and food without having to spend money on them on the Market Board. So crafters are also useful in this regard—you just need to be willing to put in the time for gearing, melding, and obtaining of the materials needed (which is why it’s also useful to level gatherers with crafters).

If you want to attempt to make money, crafting and gathering is also useful for that, but you have to invest a lot of time and money to make it profitable in the first place. Even still, leveling it for the repairing and materia melding aspects alone made it worth it to me.

They are money making machines and the best gear at the start of a new Raid is crafting gear

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

I agree with HyoMinPark's response 100%, but I would like to add...

Personally, I wouldn't worry about your crafters until you have a class at max level.

Some benefit of crafting from my experience.

    - Can repair your own gears anytime, anywhere (you need to have respective class at least 10 lv below the gear's lv requirement)
    - Saving repair cost. For example, gear that npc charge you 400-500g to repair per piece can be repair with 200g item with crafting and it will get condition +100% that can exceed normal durability (ex. 30/100 →130/100) which mean you can use it longer before needing to repair it again.
    - Saving melding cost, npc melding cost atm is upto 1200g per Materia and you can also meld anywhere, anytime.
    - Can craft you own Glamour stuffs. (Sometimes those stuffs are quite expensive on marketboard)
    - Can produce your own foods/potions for raiding, save more gil if you also have gatherer classes.

That's it. For me, crafting is not only about making money, it's about reducing your expense.

I love gathering and crafting - it's opened up a whole new side of the game for me. I say "yes" there is a need for it - making essential upgrades for PC's that are less than what they would pay from an NPC but still well over 2-5 times the actual "cost" to gather the materials. It's basically a money making system.

The ability to repair your own gear out in the field is super too.
