All the more reason to do something about it. If you think they are doing something wrong, tell them. You might change the game for the better.Think about that line though.
Extended use on your character. Then you change your character.
I am of the opinion that anything with both gender options (some don't have such), it should absolutely be exchangeable. But I also won't throw a fit about it because I know how these things be and SE likes money.
Yeah, that was really poorly worded, sorry. I meant some races are locked out of certain outfits. You could see every race wearing Lightning gear, but you won't have that option with Hrothgars.
Really well expressed. Thanks for your support and understanding. This has to be some of the most twisted nonsensical "logic" I've seen. The whole point of purchasing these outfits is for them to have extended use on your character for the foreseeable future. They clearly don't if you change gender, especially if you happen to prefer your change. Calling this buyer's remorse or "throwing a tantrum" is blatantly white knighting SE, especially considering they already allow you to swap some outfits... just conveniently not the expensive ones. Granted, I wager this is more an oversight than necessarily greed. Regardless, the OP, and others in their position, want the full value of their purchase. Being told you must remain male or female otherwise said purchase is rendered item bloat until you switch back means they are inherently losing value.
It's a simple fix at the end of the day. The OP isn't asking for a refund. They want the equivalent outfit for their soon-to-be female character.
I created a new thread to support and move forward a petition to implement gear trade. Please, everyone, feel free to show your support there if you are in favour of this suggestion.
In the end no one is forcing you to do anything.I understand the state of things. I know how things are, but I don't think it is fair. Also, I would rather play a male character, but they don't offer that possibility for Vieras, which makes the issue even more unfair. You mention other restictions, but the difference is those don't involve real money. If I change GC I will be able to do so free of charge and get all their items and mounts ingame. If I use Fantasia to change my race, I'll be able to buy their racial exclusive items ingame too. However, if I use a Fantasia to change my gender, I'll lose value on the money I have spent. If I change into a Viera, everytime I open my glamour dresser and see any of the items I'll think: "There goes my money for not being a fortuneteller."
To make things clear again, I understand the situation, but I think it's wrong to make players feel bad when they are forced to choose either to spend over 13 euros again or lose the value of their items because they weren't able to see the future 2 years before. After all, the experience should be focused on making players comfortable and happy. I'm not asking them to give free items or to lose money. It has already been bought. I just think it should be made tradeable like other items or unisex like they seemed to be heading with some previous decisions.

I don't think they are purposefully trying to make us feel bad, but some might feel forced and the feeling is still there, so why not solve it?Nobody has a crystal ball, and foresight has never been SE's or the mogshop's forte. What I'm getting at though is that they are not intentionally trying to make players feel bad, and they are most certainly not forcing you to spend any actual money on the MS.
The aftermarket value of the items you purchase are determined by you. In your case, the value is still high enough to reconsider changing to a Viera. If you follow through with the fantasia, then yeah, you will have pretty much set a lower value on the items you will no longer be able to use. Because you indeed are not a fortuneteller, it would be a good idea to not discard any of those items in case you decide to change back.
What you mention about weighing up pros and cons is the core of the issue. The problem is players will feel bad because they won't be 100% happy with any of the options. You stay the same and you are not playing the race you want and you are actually willing to pay money to do so. On the other hand, if you buy a fantasia, your items lose value. You chose the race over the gear, but you can't actually equip them now.
My point is I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be tradeable like many others you get from a simple event through 2 quests or the wedding ones. It came to me as a surprise because I didn't expect it and I don't understand why it isn't possible.
You are right. I suppose that is exactly the mentality behind their marketing department.
In view of the last comments I'd also like to know if everyone agrees with genderlock items for whatever reason or if they just join to say "it's your fault" even though they don't agree or don't even care.
Also, I'd like to know if you could think of another reason besides money making for this restriction.

So instead of being outraged, we should be making a thread / petition to ask Square Enix / the FFXIV team to allow gendered items to be exchanged for the equivalent item of the correct gender. For all past, present and future items placed in events and straight-to-Mogstation items with a male or female only tag.
Can we please just stop with throwing shade as a default and actually push for changes like civilized people?

Sorry if that came out as outraged, it wasn't my intention, but I guess you also missed the last part where I said "Hope this changes and to be of help to anyone who didn't know this." I thought there would be more people concerned about this.
However, you are right and this might not be the best way to have a solution. Any idea on how I should do it? Should it be posted under General Discussions? Male Viera thread has 729 pages though and not sure if it's going to be of any use in the long run.

I probably used the wrong word (outraged) and pushed the wrong over-all message. My apologies. I wanted to push the intention of let's bring this issue to SE's attention, especially with the advent of two gender locked races. Those race changing may have items they can no longer use and must spend additional money for vanity.Be the change you want to see in the world.

The General Forums should be fine, as it's own topic. It is an issue not limited to raced, but is a problem compounded by the introduction of two gender locked races. The main thing needs word to bring attention to it on a site, that the right people that are part of SE, will see and be able to measure how much traction the topic will garner. As much as people might like Reddit, it won't give SE the adequate information SE might need and is mostly a platform certain countries use. Propose the calamity exchange as an easy fix for this issue, as there should be no additional systems needed to be made to make the trade work as there is already a system in place. Just certain event and Mogstation items are not listed there.

Sometimes it's a little bit hard not to give in to frustration or anger on the internet so good intentions are always welcome.

I'm going Hrothgar and have too many gendered items to remember but ... ehh?
I mean, it would be nice. But I normally buy Mog glam for ... other reasons. Like for the hair on this set or the boots from this set. rarely do I get something for the main part and it just ends up collecting dust cause I hate clipping and like being able to color gear.
So personally I don't care that much. If it's important to you then keep the glam, save it for a day in the future when you think you Might play a male again. That's what I'm doing.
But don't think of it as "wasted money" if you go Viera and can't get a return on your investment into male glam.
