It works - because it's not 'replica' gear, it's just the same actual item that was available from the original quest.
As far as I've seen, only housing gets the altered replica versions... for no good reason as far as I can tell.

Good then.
I do understand why housing items get replicas. Back in 2.0 and partly 3.0 you could sell them on Maket Board, so they just prevented "legal RMT" by making replicas instead of releasing original items.
The reason is probably that seasonal housing items used to be sellable on the marketboard and since they didnt want a way to introduce RMT through official chanels all mogstation-items are untradeable. The gear already was, so it could stay as the original item but the furniture wasnt, so they added the "replica" to make it a different item. They wouldnt really need to do that with newer furniture since now all of it is marketboard prohibited, but maybe they're just sticking with a theme now?
I just checked, you can transform female gear to male gear and vice versa with :
Wedding clothings
Swiming suits (all colors)
Lightning's set to Snow's set
Yukatas and Suikans
The Valentine thingy (the apron I think ?)
And that's about it. Unless I missed something in the PNJ's choices![]()

These are all Seasonal rewards from previous years (excluding wedding clothes), yeah, you can transform them. There are also few other seasonal sets that should be changable. Mog-station exclusives (like Korean and Chinese styles) aren't, sadly.I just checked, you can transform female gear to male gear and vice versa with :

I hope they are planning on changing this atm. I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be working like the previous summer event gear. Unless it's due to the reason the first poster gave, which seems a terrible way to treat players who have already showed their support by spending money.

It'd be nice if they stopped gendering items entirely so this would never be an issue. Like I can understand how it'd be a mess to go back and fix all the issues it's caused but going forward I donno why they keep doing it.
It's not a waste of money unless the items are deleted from your inventory upon gender change. You'll get tired of being a bunny and switch back and your items will still be there waiting to be donned again. No money wasted. ....except for buying the fantasia to switch to the fotm race.

How is your money wasted? You bought those items with your current character in mind. If you were to fantasia into any female race you would encounter the very same issue. I'd be looking at things a little differently, and changing genders will now give you access to a whole theme park of glamours you previously did not have access to.I'm quite shocked because I have just been told on reddit that we can't trade male items we buy from Mog Station for female ones. I thought you could trade all of them, but I can't get why that isn't the case.
I was thinking of changing into a Viera, but this seems like a really dirty decision. It means that, apart from having to spend money on Fantasia, all my previous money goes to waste. If I do so, I'll just have a Nezha set taking up space in my inventory, which means I paid extra money to be able not to use it.
Things get even worse when you realise gender lock IS an issue now. It would be kind of acceptable if we had the option to become a male Viera, but that is not the case. There will be a lot of people becoming Vieras, just losing their money without realising and with no other option. Want to play Viera? Your money is now wasted. Of course, same case applies to female characters becoming Hrothgar.
Why isn't there an option to equip them like the last 2 summer events? They are unisex but their appearance changes depending on the gender.
Hope this changes and to be of help to anyone who didn't know this.
I do understand where you are coming from though. For the money spent, being able to trade a piece of gear from one gender for another seems perfectly reasonable, but it's all about the benjamins.

It is because I won't be able to use them on my character, which is the reason I bought them. Instead, they will be taking up inventory space. Also, how do you know I'll get tired of playing a bunny? Even if that were the case, I think I would still have the right to use the items I paid for. Especially since I bought them for a character. It will technically be the same character, just different appearance. It's not a waste of money unless the items are deleted from your inventory upon gender change. You're right when you say I would have a lot of new glamours, but the main point is the money it costs. Of course, being a game in which you can get a lot of different items for both genders I wouldn't be upset about having to get the opposite version. However, this is real money, as you said, and there is no other way to get it than spending money again, so you would have the same set twice but without the possibility to use one of them. How is your money wasted? If this is just something devs overlooked, I guess it would be east to be fixed. We know they are in favour of getting both versions of items acquired in previous events or in the Mog Station either by trade or simply with Gil. However, the other possibility would be greedy business, which feels really bad. Paying for a Fantasia shouldn't have any kind of drawbacks, from my point of view. Especially for those players who took an extra step to support them.
